billboard.com list the top 100 country songs if recall.
As for country dance songs.....do you mean line dancing or things like 2 step or such. Electric slide, cha cha slide, cotton eyed jo by rednex are some good ones to have they seem to be good for any music type as at least where I am most know them and dance to them

Billboard 100 lists the top country usually played on a radio somewhere. Most of these aren't too dance-able. Most dance country songs I use extend over the last two decades. In the past few years I have not seen many good ones.

HERE is a list of Country hits from 01/01/1999 through 12/01/2009. It's in an XLS spreed sheet so you can sort by Artist ot Title. (More than 2200 titles)
This should help you.
Good luck and don't forget that cowboy hat!

i've been in the same country nightclub for over 10 years now - i am not a country dj either.
some info about general location and type of crowd they're expecting would help.
line dances? play at your own risk - unless you live in an area where line dancing is popular, some redneck is gonna get mad and leave his sister/wife/cousin (same woman either way) by the floor and come up an complain.
find a decent (word-of-mouth popular) country bar in your area and watch peoples reactions to songs to get an idea of what they like - regional tastes in country music differ greatly.
try to remember that you'll be playing some of the most depressing music on the planet and will have to find a selection of songs that wont make your customers fall asleep, or start slitting their wrists in the middle of the night.
beats per minute in country music does not decide the energy of the song, and you shouldnt let bpm's decide what to play next.
you still have to learn your intro and outro's for coming in and out of songs so its a good idea to listen to both BEFORE you play it - you can totally kill the mood out there by having the song come to a complete end before starting the next one.
there's more i can put in here, and if i remember to do it i'll bring home a typical set-list from work.

Thank you guys for all the help, I forgot about Billboard and yes I already have promo only sub but for other genres so I could go there..
Renee thank you for the list I will look into that also.
Country club thank you for the input A set-list would give a good outlook on this genre, this would be great help..
I've also looked at yes.com if you guys are not aware of this site check it out, all you got to do is put in the call letters for any radio station and it will pull up there play list for you..

last friday night was pretty good for us so i'm gonna put the whole night here for you to take a look at, but with a really BIG caution for you - dont take it as a "make everybody happy list". the idea here is floor rotation to boost alcohol sales - playing a little something for everyone so that different groups of people are on and off the floor and getting to the bar so we can make money. from 8 to 9:30-10pm is essentially filler music while people filter in to the club, after that we start in on the more popular hits and proceed with our format ( it's a good format but try not to hold yourself to one too much - you'll get in a rut sometimes)
i've omitted the booty shakin' music list - its pretty much the same stuff you'd get in most nightclubs where the girls want to shake their butts - and will show you where the line dancing stuff is. or what they linedance to anyhow.
and i cant stress enough - please keep in mind that quite a few of the songs on this list are definitely REGIONAL - I've had to put up with the emergence of the "Texas Country" genre - most of it wont be played anywhere but in Texas and dont get national airplay, so alot of people who like country wont have heard of them or their songs.

Wow COUNTRY, no Keith Urban in your list? He's HUGE here in Florida.
geposted Sat 12 Dec 09 @ 1:08 pm
Renee' - i did get one keith urban towards the end - his newer one "Only You Could Love Me This Way" that someone visiting their fiance' who was TDY to ft. hood wanted to dance to.
like i said- regional tastes. aside from me throwing in a few spins every now and then to see if there was any change in floor reaction to his songs (5-10 couples at the most for any of his tunes, fast or slow) i havent had ANY customer requests for keith urban in the last year or two.
2brothers - if you could throw in some demographic AND geographic info that might help to try and figure out what you're gonna need to do with the music.

country club the demo crowd is 21 to 30 fresh to the club thing.. Like I said I'm a top 40, hip-hop, dance guy and there is never a issue with that but it's the owner that wants to do this one off night.. I think he's crazy but he's the one paying my bills, so I role with it..as far as the geographic I'm up in the NW to be more spot on Portland Or..
thanks again for the help..

ouch. sometimes that demo group is the worst to play for when it comes to country music. the girls are gonna want the more popular newer stuff for the most part and the guys are gonna ask for any and everything in between from johnny cash to new george strait.
just took a look at a couple of portland stations playlists - standard market driven nashville stuff mostly. only problem with that is there is a HUGE difference between a radio/bar song and a club song - a bar song they will sit there and listen to and drink a beer, a club song they will ask her to dance, they'll both get thirsty and want a drink and probably dance some more. club song = more alcohol sales and people getting laid. if they can't dance to it, its not gonna do you much good.
and yeah, most owners are crazy. goes with the territory i think.

Here's my playlist from this past April (the last country night I did). We have a country night every Thursday at a club here and it is always packed. You probably just need to add a few newer songs to this list like the new Carrie Underwood - Cowboy Cassanova and Lady Antebellum new Taylor Swift, new Brooks and Dunn, Sugarland, Rascall Flatts etc... The great thing about country is that if initially successful, the songs tend to last far far longer than hip hop's very short expiration time. You can also get away with a couple of slow songs through the evening with country. It makes for a good dance floor rotation time.
21:40 : Alan Jackson - Mercury Blues
21:41 : Led Zeppelin - Hot Dog
21:47 : Trace Adkins - Swing
21:51 : Dwight Yoakam - I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide
21:55 : John Cougar Mellencamp - Pink Houses
21:59 : Paul Brandt - Convoy
22:03 : Brad Paisley - The World
22:07 : Mavericks - Dance the Night Away
22:12 : Faith Hill - This Kiss
22:15 : Blue Rodeo - Rose-Coloured Glasses
22:19 : Dierks Bentley - What Was I Thinkin'
22:23 : Shedaisy - God Bless The Canadian Housewife
22:26 : Keith Anderson - Xxl
22:30 : Gretchen Wilson - Here For The Party
