A lot of people on the forum have trouble with quoting (INCLUDING ME!).

Usually I would press the QUOTE button then type what I wanna type but it makes it "messy"

What do we do???

Thanks on behalf of everyone!

Yes pressing the quote button is the right thing to do, but you have to make sure you preserve the square brackets around the quote markers.

Each quote opens with a square bracket '[' the word 'quote' followed by an equals sign '=' and then the user name of the quote followed by a closed square bracket ']'.

The quote is closed by the marker '/quote' inside square brackets.

Cheers,

Roy

Another thing about the quotes. They are often abused. If you are answering a direct question by all means use them. If you are responding to a post more than 2-3 above you, use them. If you are using the Quote feature because your too lazy to use the "Reply" feature..your doing it wrong...

Makashino,

Good work... But try not to put your follow up test in the quote - like your Thanks!!!

Also agree with Tear - They can be over miss used.

Also remember you can quote as many times in a single message as you like, just re-apply the open/close quote. This is good when replying to multiple issues so you can highlight each issue you are responding to.

Cheers,

Roy

Ihate the damn things... I invaribly read a quote because some numbty is quoting someone directly above them, then there is the one where someone is quoting the quote of someone above that is quoting what someone else quoted. what a waste of time....

Oh by the way, I've got a stinking head cold and someone has secretly but elastic bands around my chest and super glued every joint and muscle in my body, other than that i'm just happy go lucky me... enjoy your New Year and please don't quote me on the that, lol.

this is what I get when I quote ^^^

Yea my above post was like my 'test' post.

When I quote, it ends up like TDBennett's post. I feel like i get everything right.

Test..

ok guys for those that are stuck try this... the set up will have spaces in the quote brackets to show you the formula but close all spaces to get the right greyed out quote

[ q u o t e ]your text you want to quote here[ /q u o t e ]

Quote :
tour text you want to quote here

if you use the "text quote" from some ones post, you can edit their text to suit what you need as long as the text remains between the two quote boxes.

hey hey hey

^^^I did it like that and this is still what I get, same as the quote button. ^^^
hmmm, good thing most here aren't worth quoting. LOL

Wow..

doesnt work for me...
maybe its because im a le user

It's a forum feature not a VDJ feature, so has nothing to do with LE, Home, Basic or Pro...

From seeing the other responses here, ok can only assume people are removing the
and the
from thier messages.

Or they are copying the from the message and then simply adding a reply and pasting the text in to a new reply, and not pressing the quote button to the right of the message along from the "Posted Wed 30 Dec 09 @ 10:34 am".

There is no reason why these should not be working.

I get the same results whether I type it myself using [quo te] [/quo te] or if I use the quote button provided. I never get the grey box, it just shows up as if I typed it myself. Why would I remove the [quo te] from the code generated by the site? Your assumption is wrong Gadgetman.
and it CAN be a forum issue, LE users can't post pictures to the forums so this could be something similar in the setup of the site. Not intentional but something overlooked or unknown.
I can't use to post an image. (minus the spaces of course.)

unfortunately i would say it is because you are le users. if you can't see the syntax at bottom to the left of the save button then that is the reason.

I've poked around the forum and it does appear to be an LE user restriction. No biggie to me, as long as I know my shrimp isn't broken and I'm not doing something wrong.
I'm used to being treated like a second-class citizen LOL

Thanks for the clarification Paul. Does seem an odd one though...

oooooooo i see ... But I think quoting should be for everyone. Its just small thing but with 'ALL DUE RESPECT' it should be for everyone
