seems like a pretty useful controller at first. just picked one up today. now ive spent hours trying to work out the simple bug of it having popping sounds while using it. Im using a new studio with basically just that and my music. ive read online of other people having the same problem but no working solutions of course. another thing that bothers me is that it is only reconized on the iffy version of virtual dj that it came with. i would just like to use it with my old virtual dj and none of these popping noises. any reasonable ideas or is it time to take this piece of garbage back?

Try this :
http://www.virtualdj.com/download/trial.html
Download the latest demo.
In performance tab, set latency to auto.
And if still sound issues, turn safe mode on.
(you dont have this option in the limited free version of VDJ that came with the console unfortunately).
You can upgrade for a very low price to pro version as a RMX owner here:

Read through the forums first... There are plenty of us out there using the RMX with no issues whatsoever.
You may have a faulty unit (doubt that though), but by reading the forums you will find that most cases of "popping" or bad audio are down to your system set up.
Check everything. Try different audio and USB cables, try tweaking the settngs in VDJ, make sre you have version 4 of the hercules drivers.
Also tell us more about your system. Wat OS, Memory, etc.
There's a 99% chance its not the RMX, but with some patience you should be able to get it working.
You first point of call should be the Hardware http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/31/Hardware_Technical_Support.html forum and to chck out the pinned Hercules thread.
Cheers,
Roy

This what I`ve done with my RMX after Tweaking for Audio Performance and using DPC latency checker with no success. I updated my USB port where I insert my RMX USB connection (in fact I upgraded all the USB Drivers) then I removed the RMX driver and Re-installed it on the updated USB port. At first I still get the popping sound but not as often at the default setting of ASIO buffer size of 21. I gradually increased the buffer size until I reached 28 ms where it is now and the popping sound had dissaperared! Now I can surf the net while playing music with VDJ. I didn`t have to disable any devices on the device manager and just like when I was using DJ IO there was no more distortion on the music output.
Hope this helps!

@bosabose - Excellent post. It's little snippits like this that will help the new (and the old) deal with the odd issue. It also shows that most of the time what people think is a hardware problem actually isn't.
Every PC/Laptop/Mac is different - even two that came off the production line one after the other - as it all depends what the user does with it from the first time they switch it on...
Cheers,
Roy

usually VDJ already has a configuration setting that will cover unsightly blemishes associated with Windows or your controller .........
skips and pops are a dead give away that the issue is windows btw
when you post problems include your OS and VDJ version #
if a video problem also include graphic card maker and number and direct x
i'm guessing it's xp for the os ....
checking cables and other items are unnecessary ......
if a cable is bad it won't work ......cables don't cause skips and pops if the cable is shot there will be zero sound .....
there are a known set of common and easily fixed , issues , that cause skips .......

I cant agree more with chuck.. the controller is only as good as the performance of your pc.
The controller has a soundcard and the max u could do to push the performance is overclock and run it in safe mode(send more buffer)
If your system does not have the juice to handle VDJ (mind you lots of ram is also not the answer.. a correct ratio to cpu clock cycle etc is required) it just wont.
I had pops/clicks when i plugged in my rmx out of the box.. I just updated the firmware and enabled safemode on VDJ settings..

If you mix with the RMX LE Version you can't change the latency inside VDJ.
Install first the latest driver and maybe do the firmwareupdate ;-)
http://ts.hercules.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=2&fid=28&pid=215&cid=1
Down at the taskbar, you have a little RMX Icon.
So you can enter the RMX Setup.
Put your RMX to ASIO Mode and change the Puffer size level up to a higher level, as long as the sound getting better.
I guess after that, you are happy with the RMX and your LE Version.
If you want somteimes more, go the DJ in Norway WAY ;-)
See you
Haui
