Hello!!!
Used to DJ in my teens and have been fiddling with the demo version for a few weeks. Really enjoyed myself, and am keen to buy a full version (had offers to DJ at parties), but I know there is Pro and basic, and I dont want to pay for Pro when basic will do.
I am a bedroom/houseparty DJ, with all my music stored on my computer. Unlikely to play a club. Am I therefore better off buying basic?
If I do, can I use an external USB mixer to operate the 'on screen' mixer? )
Will buying a full version allow me to use headphones like you would on a normal set of decks?
Can I then just rock up to my mates house with My PC, USB mixer and get cracking? Will I need anything else? What can I do re decent speakers?
Any advice would be greatfully received as I still look at 1210's in awe....

For you, basic is probably your best bet..
Especially because if you DO decide to upgrade to Pro later, The price you paid for Basic will go towards the upgrade.. :-)
Yes, Basic will allow you to use an external mixer (It does NOT allow full screen videos or controllers or timecode input)
As too speakers, look at getting some Active or powered speakers.. very portable yet will blow away most home speaker systems.

Depends what you mean, I don't think the basic version will not allow midi control of the mixer but you can use 2 channels for input of the players like any normal mixer.

the basic version . it was developed especially for users that only want to use the keyboard and the mouse to mix, you can't use any controller because it does not include that feature. you can connect you computer to a mixer but only to cotrol the audio no the software.

Basic doesn't support controllers I'm afraid. You can use headphones though; you'll need a 4 channel soundcard.

buy hercules steel or rmx (and a sound card if you get steel) they both come with DJCue which is a "simple" version of vdj pro.......then you can get the pro version for cheaper than normal price........(which was stated b4)
so all in all buy a controller (that is supported by VDJ) get a software and when you are ready upgrade and rock the heck outa those house parties....at least that is what i did and now i made enough to buy Numark NS7 which i love :)

Thanks for all the advice guys.
Off I went, and got myself a hercules E2 MP3 controller. Got a soundcard too for headphones - behringer UCA 2020 - all for £125.
Anyway, sounds great, works great, I'm mixing some disgusting tunes, my neighbours have the right hump and keep knocking my door (I dont care what they say - The Burial by leviticus still sounds sick, and needs to be played at the appropriate volume!!)- its like I never stopped!
So im playing tunes with my computer soundcard as output ( I have nice speakers - brother in law sells computers for a living!), and the behringer for headphones.
I now want to take it further, and play a little louder! Can I use phono leads from my soundcard, to connect it to the AUX channel on my stack stereo? I figure all I have to do is change the config settings in virtual DJ so output is via Behringer sound card, and then headphones via computer internal soundcard.
Can anyone confirm before I blow up my stereo?
Also, can I load my VDJ software onto my housemates laptop and take that with me saturday without uninstaling it from my home PC? Saves me lugging a heavy computer, monitor and stereo! I've a house party on saturday and they need some beats!!!

Yes you can go from Mini jack to RCA to connect to a stereo, miver or amp.
Yes you can copy VDJ on to your housemates laptop as long as you are the only one using it and uninstall it when you finish.
You'd have to repeat this process each time you gig'd using his laptop. This is required as the laptop is not yours for sole use and could be a breach of your EULA.
Cheers,
Roy
