Topic: Moving database to an external drive

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hi guys,

I finally decided to buy a larger capacity external drive to hold both my videos and regular songs as i was running out of space on my C drive. I just don't want to loose all the countless hours put in to create playlists, cue points etc....by having vdj treat those files in the new hdd as new songs or not finding the music on the playlists already created when the database is moved.

Can anyone kindly, explain to me a painless way to trick the software to be kind to me:)?

I haven't done anything yet, just scare to mess up....:), waiting for the community support and help.

Big Up!

In the root of your current external hard drive you will find a file called "VirtualDJ Local Database v6.xml" or v5 if you are using an older version.

This file contains all the file information, cue points, etc that you have created ove the years.

You need to preserve this file at all costs...

Now when you move the files to the new drive, make sure they are in the same folder structrure as the current drive.

Now, if you have both drives plugged in your original drive will be something like drive F and the new drive G. Now, the data in the xml database refers to the files by drive\path so we need to make sure your new drive has the same drive letter.

So now restart your PC and unplug the old drive - leaving the new drive plugged in.

Once back at your desktop, click start and then right click on My Computer and select "Manage" from the menu.

When the window appears select "Disk Management" from the left hand tree. You will get a view of your drives. Now right click on your external drive and from the menu select "Change Drive Letter and Paths...".

Now change the drive letter to that of your old drive. Windows will now assign this letter to your new drive when you connect it.

So you will now have:

1. Your VDJ Database XML file in the root of your new drive
2. You old music data in the same structure on the new drive
3. Re-assigned your old drives letter to the new drive

Job Done...
