Can't believe it! My gigging laptop went back to Hewlett Packard for Warranty repairs on Monday and it's back already! (Thursday morning) New motherboard fitted, BIOS updated, etc. Now THAT'S service. Spent 3 days setting up my old creaky laptop to gig this weekend. Now gonna spend all day setting up the HP for tonights gig. Chuffed to bits! :-)
I did mention in my email to them that I make my living with this laptop every weekend and, therefore, could they make it a priority.

Just installing Windows 7 (32 bit) right now, then set it up for DJing tonights gig.
I did blame W7 last Oct/Nov when I had video problems, but, after returning to Vista, I still had the same problems even though the W7 & Vista video drivers are different. Which is what pointed to a hardware problem.

No need, it's a low priority gig tonight, 3 hours and nobody getting in yet. Only had about a dozen in last week (they haven't had a DJ on Thursdays for over a year). Good testbed though :-)

I know what you mean. Thursdays were great in the summer but at this time of year not much going on. Luckily I was moved to Fr/Sat and the start of December and another DJ does Thursdays...
Saturdays have now really picked up, but our Fridays are still poor. We're trying for an older audience on a Friday, playing tunes from the 70's upwards. Those that do make it down to the pier enjoy the music. One laday last week said "we should do this every week"...
It'll take some time and some decent marketing to help build it up. We may have a stroke of luck coming our way though as our main rival for this kind of night looks like it might be going members only. That's OK for a subset of the locals but come holiday season they'll lose out big time, and hopefully we'll pick it all up...

Yep, courier collected laptop Monday 2.15pm, returned laptop 9.30am Thursday. New motherboard fitted, BIOS updated and soak tested.

+1 on HP service! I've had to send my HP in once in the four years I've had it and they got it back to me in under 48 hours!
