I am trying to switch TO video from audio...Here's my problem...
Coming out of Laptop
VGA - VGA works perfect....However VGA - composite or VGA to S-Vid does not work...cannot get a usuable picture....No matter what i do with screen resolution...
What are people using to get the signal from VGA to the other formats....My Laptop only has VGA out.
Most of the clubs i dj in are going to be composite.....

I've tried various adapters.....vga to s vid and a vga to composite....I was at an IT friends house and he was trying everything and anytging patch cords and nothing would give us a even somewhat usuable pic.....laptop only has vga out..

theirs no such thing as a "patch cord" that will convert VGA to composite.. you need a converter..
(as was shown above by TDBennet)
I havent used one for years, so I cant really recommend a current product..
I do know that their are lots of options and the prices have really come down..
only advice I can give.. make sure you get one thats usable for long distances..

you need the converters for scan conversion; different scan rates from vga to composite.
the ones I listed above are kind of consumer grade. If you need more professional, which equals more money,
you can go with Kramer or Altinex. There are other manufacturers as well, I'm familiar with Kramer and Altinex and they've always worked well. BlackBox used to make some cool little converters but I just don't do huge video system installs anymore so I'm not up-to-date on the latest and greatest.
good luck,
T

Yup!
a little expensive but sometimes you DO get what you pay for.. also keep in mind.. these things don't really "wear out" so it can possible last you for ten years.
the only thing i dont like about it, is it doesnt have a VGA pass-thru (usefull for expansion)

I have two of these units (one vga to component and one s-video to component and they make virtually any converter you need...great units http://www.atlona.com/Audio-Video-Converters-p-1-c-306.html

I don't mind spending the money on one of these, I just want one that will work...I'm seeing a WIDE variety of prices on these links...It looks like 2 of the 3 places i spin at are using Component/RCA.....So thats what i will be plugging into...VGA to Component...How much Difference in quality of picture is there between these $39 units and $250 units? If Component only does a certain resolution than it should be the same on all units correct?

the more expensive units usually have better controls for configuration. you can adjust the scan rate very well with some of the more expensive units. if you work alot of different venues then you may need some flexibility. try out some of the units you can pick up at local retailers and see how they work. if you can't find a decent comsumer grade unit then go to the pro units.
