Topic: Newb Questions About A Setup

Ok, for starters I am not what u would call a dj, but I do work as a dj for friends when they have shows. I am looking for something that I can run off of my laptop that way we are not running our sets off of a cd. My friend told me about Virtual DJ and he has it, I like the program and I am thinking about purchasing it. I did my research and saw that I will need an external sound card 2 come out of my macbook pro and be able 2 run into the club mixer. I was looking at the Audio 2 DJ http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/audio-2-dj/

My second question is once I get these 2 pieces if they will work 2gether can I later add another device that would actually plug into my laptop 2 act as a controller that has the 2 cd decks on it so I could scratch on. The answer to your questions is yes and no. The only no part is that to use both decks on their own, independent channel, you will need a 2-in, 2-out soundcard (at LEAST the Audio4DJ).
 
If you want to start cheap and expand later, VDJ is enough. Your Mac has an internal soundcard, so to start that should be it. Using the internal mixer in VDJ all you need is a single stereo out. Later on you can look at a controller with or without a build-in (multichannel) soundcard.
Without the controller you can mix with your mouse and keyboard.

Martin FourS, Doing research and reading many, many forums I read that my internal soundcard isn't enough to push through the club speakers, so from what you are saying that is not true?
 
So far my PC (or Mac) have been connected to an external mixer (my own) Could be that is why I never had the issue that my output was too low or couldn't be corrected by opening the gain. So: no, not a know problem for me.
 
cool thx. So i can start running their shows off of it now and save the money until i get enough for a controller.

Once last question, once i purchase vdj, how do i get the no license user off of name?
 
once you purchase VDJ you will get a serial number you can enter under the "Modify my profile" tab, the forums will reflect your license level after that.
 
Why didn't anyone (myself included) came up with the other option....? ;-)
For about the same amount of money (give or take $20,-) you can buy yourself a controller with build-in soundcard, like the Hercules RMX. Buying the right one, it'll be bundled with VDJ Console edition. Don't forget to register it. If you want to upgrade later on to VDJ Pro, you'll get a bargain because you already own a Limited version.

To be able to either pre-listen via headphones or output the two virtual decks separately to an external DJ mixer, you will need a sound card with at least two stereo outputs such as 5.1 card or preferably a dedicated DJ card such as Numark DJIO or Native Instruments Audio 2 DJ. This can also be used with MIDI controllers such as VCI-100.

If you wish to use traditional vinyl decks or CD players to control the software via time code then you would need a 4-in/4-out ASIO sound card such as Hercules DJ Trim, Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ or ESI Maya44 USB.

I run the M-Audio Xponent. Connects via usb. The mapper for it is preinstalled on VDJ and you can hook into the booth or master via rca's. Headphones hook directly to the unit. but their is no place for the mic.
When I want to run TC's i run the m-audio conective, which is a 4x4 sound card. You have to hook up your headphones directly to the soundcard.
 
why not just buy a herc with built in soundcard??? that way you can do what the hell you like and you will get vdj with it free..than all you gotta do is setup the external mixer function and plug it into the herc..
