I have a two part question here and would like to hear what others have to say.
I like to use fader start and I bought a FCU8-USB Fader Control Unit but have not
been able use it. I use the latest version of VDJ Pro and Pioneer DJM 3000 mixer.
Any help will be much appreciated.
My 2nd question is about the Data Field Columns. In today’s music we have many
versions and remixes of a hit song. I think it will be very useful to have “version” added
to the Data Field Columns so that the user can fill in his choice. Any suggestions please.
Thanks

I use the "comments" field for the version name. It also reads that field from the tag when adding to the database.

I use the "comments" for personal use, like 5 stars to 1 star, 5 stars being top hit to 1 star, play it only on request.

Better use an other character than the '*' - because VDJ uses it as wildcard ;-)
I personally use the '+' symbol.

It's designed for use with BPM Studio and is not natively supported by VirtualDJ.
However, if it's MIDI capable or USB HID, then you should be able to create a definition and mapping for it: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJscript.html

Hi, Thanks. My knowledge on computers is limited, can you please walk me thru.

First you would need to see if it is a MIDI or HID device. If not, then it will not be possible to utilise it (Atleast not without special 'hard' coding by the dev team.)
Make sure that you have no other peripherals/devices connected to your computer except the fader start box.
Go to Windows Control Panel -> System -> Hardware
Look under Sound, video and game controllers - If you see the device listed, or if you are using Windows XP and you see 'USB Audio Device' listed, then it is MIDI capable.
Otherwise, look under Human Interface Devices. If you see it listed there, it is HID capable.
NOTE: If you upgrade to a MIDI capable mixer, then you would be able to map the volume sliders to perform fader start.

I'm pretty sure all the Alcatech stuff is proprietary, I know the RCP controllers definitely don't work with any other software.

Hi, I pluged only the faderbox in the USB and it shows only in USB Controller. Under Human interface device I see "HID Compliant consumer control device, but it says
Manufacturer: Microsoft
Location: on USB Input device.
I don't think this is the faderbox because when I unplug it, it's still there, or am I dead wrong and what should I do next.
Thanks for your halp.

You will probably find that is your mouse or keyboard.
If it were the fader box, it would disappear when you unplug it.
Unfortunately it looks like it is proprietary and only supported by BPM Studio.

Afaik - the controller is a proprietary protokoll only usable in BPM Studio. It's something like a coded serial protocoll. I asked about the controller facts about 1 year ago because a friend of mine changed to VDJ pro and wants to use the controller with it.
As Alcatech reported there is no chance to map it.

Thanks for all the help. I don't even know if its supported in windows 7. I have written to BPM Studio and will post their reply. Just for your info, I do use BPM Studio with Fader strat, this is my main programme, I use the VDJ only for mixing, and sometimes for background, lounge and chillout music.

I can confirm I have tried the RCP controller and it certainly does not work with VDJ 6 so I guess the fader start box will be the same. Alcatech deliberately designed their gear to be this way.
I gave up on BPM Studio 2 years ago due to non-development, expensive repair costs, shocking customer service and 160 Euros to update BPM Studio to work with Vista or 7. I'm really amazed these people are still in business to be honest!

I have a Pioneer mixer, I don't want to buy a midi controller just for fader start, is there a feder start box which I can buy and will work with VDJ. The one I have is from BPM Studio and it does not work with VDJ.
Thanks
