So a couple weeks ago, my booking agent/production company is doing the production work for a local band. I was there as a DJ filler before and after the band. I also ran lights during the show. So the band finishes their last set around 12:15 or so and I take over with my music. About 2 or 3 songs in, the drummer get's back behind his kit...

That's just F'n Nutz ... pun intended .... dude is awesome and even caught your transitions very well ...
Not only been a DJ for several years ... but have been mixing bands as well and would have given anything to have that kind of accompaniment when I was mixing.
Very NICE!!

The band actually wants to work that into their show as a regular thing. The bar we played at wants to do a full concert of just me and him too. Now I get what Travis Barker and DJ Am were up to...
p.s. thanks for embedding the video :)

Yeah the Dude is Good! Remind me of many a jams I had in the past (Used to drop in on friends at clubs )but mixing live playing with the Dj is not new to me since I'm both..he,he... this was last nite solo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFJ8ZjRpHXY Remember 808 state? there was a clip of them doing their "Interactive" version of Pacifica on stage in a Video called "Dance Music Video Magazine vol. 1" that my brother had and now I cant find it .....

it's good when he was actually on beat. A little over the top though. Drumming at that tempo can wear your ass out fast too!

UPDATE:
So turns out he practices to techno and Chicago house beats. He says he can keep up for about an hour before he needs a break. He would like the tempo to ebb and flow from 100 to 130+ over the course of an hour. I am going on tour with the band in April!

There's a house DJ in my town that when DJing at an "Event" he'll bring a percussionist with him... Works well.
I've also had a few drummers warm up when I'm doing my sound check if I'm sharing an evening with a band.
I agree though that some of it was a bit OTT, you both need to work on your set so he knows what your going to play and how to accompany "you"...
Cheers,
Roy
