Trying to help out a fellow DJ with a failed hard drive. It's not so much the music he wants off - that's safe. He needs the VDJ database so he can recover his virtual folders etc.
I've got software to recover files, but I think the drive is well and truly dead.
On connecting the drive to my desktop, I can see the USB/ATA adaptor buit the drive oesn't appear.
On going in to the "Disk Management" snip-in in "Computer Management" it can see the drive but says "Not Initialized". Tried initialising with both options MBR & GPT but I just get an error box saying "Incorrect Function".
Has this drive completely died???

have you gone to the HDD vendors website and check into some of the utilities they offer for download. they may have some rescue software or some applications that allow to repair or view the drive. beyond that it starts to get pricey.

After hooking up the usb/ata adapter slowly turn and hold the harddrive in different positions. You may get lucky and the drive will start spinning and you will be able to access it while holding it in a certain position..good luck it takes a lot of patience

Tried that... No Joy
Drive is failing to initialise which means my "GetDataBack" apps can't even see the drive to analyse it.
In the words of Monty Python "'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This hard drive is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker!"
He'll be glad he has his history files to re-build is folders from... He just spent the last few days sorting them out!!!
Cheers,
Roy

Drive was taken out of caddy and plugged in to my own "UB2.0 to IDE/SATA Cable" set, so I know it's not the cable or interface in the caddy.
Have already informed the guy his drive is fubar'd, so it's back to him now ;-)
