Right now is not how we ask for help around here.

You need a multi channel sound card or two single channel cards to have a monitor channel.

Once you have installed that, the software will see and allow assignments of the channels based on your configuration ie:internal/external mixer etc....

Or you can split the stereo RCA with two y RCA cables. It will be two mono connections, but you will be able to cue one channel and play the other. Also, only post the same question in one spot on the forum.

Thanks guys for your help. can I also ask if I was to use one of those controllers. Which one would you point me to. as you can tell I'm new to this. in fact quite new to dj-ing. Some one mentioned VDJ to me, so thats why I'm here. Just want something that I can practice on at home, however if I wanted to connect it to a club sound system I still have that option. I also have a limited budget.

The Hercules RMX is nice to keep the cost down. That will allow to connect to a club or powered speaker system.

ok i'm the lazy person, wrote this for another guy yesterday I think, seems a shame to waste a good piece of text, plus it's a near similar situation,

only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

hi, miss mix,

nothing daft about your question we have all needed advice at some point so don't worry about it.

as your just trying the system out you'll not want to splash to much cash on a sound card just now so just pop down to Argos and you'll pick one up at a half decent price, external sound cards can vary from the argos price right through to hundreds of pounds this is why I'm sending you this route first. once you got your card select a usb port you are going to use and always keep to that same port, goes for most things connected to digi djing., swapping ports is not good for the heart beats.

Now once you have your card plugged into the usb switch on your lappy, open up vdj and go to config (found at top right hand of screen) now select the sound tab, now select...

Inputs - None

Outputs - headphones (you will see one is for master and the other is for your headphones)

Soundcards - 2 ( select your external card as master and your on board card as head phones)

Connections...

From your external sound card run the red and white rca lead say to channel 3 on mixer, to run a head phone channel you will need to run a mini jack plug with red and white rca ends from laptop earphone socket to say channel 4 on your mixer, you will now be able to hear both channels through your mixer headphones, thats it your ready to roll, vdj automatically will select your headphone output once you place a tune on an empty deck.

or if you want go the full hog and get a rmx, both charlie and me and loads of other guys use them so they aren't all that bad, mid price range for a controller mid functionality comes with it and they have a built in sound card and set up is just about the same.

hope i explained that clearly enough for you, if not one of the other guys will jump in and help.

enjoy

Remember you need Pro to work with controllers.

yes the RMX is best but the "Steel" version is alot cheaper. not as good but you get what you pay for. Personally I Love my RMX its the badgers nadgers!!!

Big up another girl DJ though... keep the faith and keep on keeping on...

Steel is cheaper as there is no soundcard. So bear that in mind. If the soundcard in your PC/laptop is not up to scratch, something like the RMX is well worth the investment...

I used to be a construction foreman as my regular day job. I was always going through the cheap tape measures about once a month. I finally decided to spring for the $35 tape measure and it lasted me a whole year. The moral of the story is, you get what you pay for.

If you can't pony up the money, then this is not the job for you.

I work at a store that sells DJ gear and I get people coming in all the time who think they are going to be DJ's. They want a couple of decks they can scratch on in their bedroom. They also mention that they might try doing bars and parties for their friends too. The first question I ask them is how much they have to spend. Without fail, they will say they don't want to spend too much. That's when I get point blank with them.

"Do not come in here looking to spend as little as possible on the cheapest gear and expect to get any respect as a DJ. Do some research. There is more to this job, and YES it is a job, than making scratching noises on a couple cdj's"

Then I ask them where they plan on getting their music. More often than not, I get a sly look from them and a statement about how they got all this music for free. I have also had a few guys ask about Virtual DJ. I found out pretty quickly that they were using cracked versions of the software. It is after hearing all of this that I explain that I would be more than happy to sell them whatever they wanted and I will also send their names and addresses to the proper people regarding their illegal downloaded and software piracy activity.

I know I am only one guy in one store where people can buy DJ gear, but I am not going to help any of these no-talent ass clowns get into this business unless they are going to do it the RIGHT way.
