It's always been my untrained observation that my Lenovo S-10 Netbook runs quicker than my Lenovo T-61p.
I've been running Video on the t-61p, but it took some tweeking of the system to get the efficency and CPU cushion I wanted.
Just for kix & giggles I tried running video off of my Lenovo Netbook, and dang if it didn't do the job. It didn't have the CPU cushion I would've liked, but it ran the video without any stuttering.
My question to the VDJ Tech Support Crew & Members in-the-know: How is this possible????
Seriously, with all the problems I've read about, on far superior machines no less, how can the humble, tiny Netbook do the job?
Thanx! -Z-

What tweaks did you do? I need more resources to give to VDJ and my DJIO.

The tweaks I did were foir XP.
This guy is well spoken of by other jocks who needed more CPU juice in their machines.

The following threads were a wealth of info as well:

How's the Latency in your system?

Tweak for performence.

Registry Cleaner is also good for performance.

Memory Improve Master.

I'm sure other tweaks can be found by searching around the forums here. I searched using keywords video + memory or video + freezing.
Good luck! Cheers, -Z-

Hello,
I wouldn't recommend the use of a netbook for Video mixing. I understand what you are saying and would explain to you what I know about this.
Many users on here run to the store and buy what they like, the sales man in there also sales what it's best for him to sale. Now This user comes here with a Core i7 extreme edition super laptop but has ATI 4670 video card in it. it would not perform video mixing, because of this.
Now, you in the other hand, check and see what is best for video mix. Buy a humble Core 2 Duo p8600 with Intel 4500 video card with shared video memory. It would work like a charm. Why is this?, Well we have a very big trouble about DJ Video mixing needs and Laptop users needs. While many brands are tweaking to have more battery mobile features, we liked to have BEST PERFORMANCE at all time. The design considerations are different and we have to deal with great laptops with poor 100% sustain performance. Video drivers also have it's own problems, while the same N-Vidia video card work good on a desktop, could have some issues in a laptop.
Now, many users go for AMD (with all power vs performance not good for DJing) and with ATI video cards, would not go good on video mixing. Add to this Windows 7 64 bits and we can hang ourselfs.
With your netbook you have Windows XP, 32 bits and compatible video hardware. That's why you can use it. However, the Atom processor if very limited, so if you try video effects or to analyze a song while playing, could have freezes and stops. That's why we recommend Core 2 Duo and T6000 or better to have good performance.
Anyway, Dev Team works to have better equipment options and less problems even if the hardware isn't that good. But also depends on manufactures drivers development.

Thank you for the insight as well as your expertise. I definitely wouldn't use the Netbook as a Primary for Video. It's nice to know though that as back-up it can do the job. More than that though I was just curious as to the reasons behind what would seem to be an anomaly. -Z-
