What's up everybody in the VDJ community? I'm back with another to ask around and the question is what do you consider your special DJ style. I don't necessarily mean club DJs. What I mean is turntablism. Nowadays, most DJs like to beat juggle, perform scratch routines, and sometimes lyric-cut. Other DJs like to stick with the old-school freestyle body trix technique. As for me,well,I am such a novice when it comes to DJ scratch mixing. I only use one turntable on my VirtualDJ software set, and when I mix,I would use the three cue buttons to make it sound like I'm doing trix. But most importantly,I would scratch my records like a maniac madman-meaning that I cut and scratch too deep. So,there you have it. That's my style of DJing. What's yours? Please give info.

the only style that matters - keeping up a good rotation that makes the bar money and keeps me employed. everything else is just showing off to other dj's

Another thing I have to add concerning my DJ style is that I use my laptop keyboard and mouse to scratch and mix.

my style is pretty crazy..
I'm so old school, I sometimes pretend I dont have speed control and will beat mix songs together with DIFFERENT BPMS!! ya baby ya!!
I not only beat juggle, i sometimes beat-wiggle and beat-wobble using six turntables, 3 mixers and a hamster...
or I just download the effects plug-ins...
I gotta say I have never done the "lyric-cut", what is that? I have taken vocals out for karaoke, though you can still actually hear the vocals so that didnt go so well..

"That, that- that was fresh" while moving the record from fwd to backward while at the same time toggling the fader from side to side. This would be done in unison to the platter movement to break the words or sounds. Now if you move the platter in either direction by 1/2 bar would allow you to select a different vocabulary in the word phrase.
If you move this record platter in a fast enough velosity or rotation it would cause a "noise" known as scratching.

I play music people want to dance to, I play it as it was recorded because...that's what people want to dance to, I play it at appropriate times because that is what people want to dance to, I play what people are familiar with because that is what people wnat to dance to......see a pattern here!
I don't scratch cause people don't want to dance to that, I don't trick cause people don't want to dance to that, I don't use the digital effects because people don't want to dance to that, I don't cut chop or screw music because people don't want to dance to that.....see a trend here also!
I play for the demographics the owner wants so he can make money, I appropriately rotate the dance floor so the owner makes money, I pace the crowd to keep them there longer and drinking so the owner makes more money, I play a wide variety of music to appeal to more people so the owner makes more money......I usually ask for a percent of sales in my contract so as I make the owner more money I make more money!
