Topic: need help. RMX + CDJ400s

when i connect a cdj 400 to one of the inputs in the rmx, and press source 1, the sound comes out very distorted. i tried adjusting the gain for that side, but it still sounds very bad. anyone know why this is happening?

Check the position on the line/phono switch. It should be set to line.

just out of curiosity, what is the phono setting for?

Pioneer CDJ-400 audio output will always be slightly distorted on DJ Console Rmx, even when set in line level, as CDJ-400 output level is higher than +4dBu, which is DJ Console Rmx reference for input level.
The solution is to attenuate CDJ-400 output level,
- either with a volume control
as Koss VC-20 volume control http://www.amazon.com/Koss-155954-VC20-Volume-Control/dp/B00001P4XH/ref=pd_bxgy_e_text_b

or Sennheiser HRZ-162 volume control http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HZR-62-Stereo-Volume-Control/dp/B000H0K8VY/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1
or the equivalent in Shure http://www.amazon.com/Shure-Level-Attenuator-Listening-Controller/dp/B00029U0X6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1274348623&sr=1-1
- or with a fixed value volume attenuator, as a -6dB RCA volume attenuator on each RCA output of the CDJ-400 (it is cheap and efficient)
