Topic: Stability (PC or MAC)

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

First I'd like to say Virtual DJ stability has gotten a lot better with recent versions. But I still get a crash every once in a while with Vista so I'm thinking it might be time to upgrade. I've got a friend that runs VDJ with a MAC and he says it has never crashed on him once. So should my new laptop run Windows 7 (if so which version) or should it be a MAC. I use VDJ for everything Music, Karaoke & Video.

Stability of Virtual DJ is my #1 priority.

Mac hardware is excellent if expensive.

I have ran VDJ on both Mac and Windows 7 32bit professional on the 17" Macbook Pro and had no problems with either. Saying that I've also ran it on various Windows laptops in the previous 2 years with no crashes either.

It is unusual for VDJ to crash now anyway, so either choice will be fine.

Do bear in mind the Mac version of VDJ is still in development a bit, and there are also less plugins and effects on the Mac side. At least if you buy a Macbook you have the choice of both operating systems and can choose whatever suits you best.

Do you often use effects??

Probably your friend, since he is using MAC version and since VDJ has not so many effect for MAC as for Windows too, he hasn't such a crashes.

Now that I think about it the last 3 crashes took place at karaoke gigs.

I've had at least 2-3 crashes on my MAC. I have never had any problems with any other software ever. I dtill think Apples is better but it cant be frustrating.

using VDJ6 with windows xp on a MPB13" and has never crashed on me.

Vista used to crash on me all the time, thought they said it was something to do with the search feature which has since been addressed with updated versions.
As far as Mac, although I haven't experienced a crash, I'm starting to see some lag while doing video thats a bit of concern while running my NS7.
Vista has got to be the biggest piece of crap I've ever had the misfortune of owning & using.

there are no magic pills out there ....

not even large amounts of Ram will automatically make your problems fade away

i use Vista home premium 64 bit and i run video with multiple hardware accelerated fx plus FireText

(which requires bluetooth for the cellphone connection)(i mention that because the old adage w/ XP (SP2 and later) was

turn off the wifi and bluetooth.....for me turning off the bluetooth isn't an option)

what do you do in terms of tweaks or optimizations to prepare your computer to succeed at delivering

professional audio n video ??

i have a w7 lappy also ... it has even more "overhead" than Vista and XP ........

there is no reason to believe a new system will work well just because it's new

the important features are the OS , (esp. whether it's 32 or 64 bit), the processor , the video card and the sound card

( and the compatibility , how they work together)......Ram is nice i suggest you have double

whatever the recommended amount is ...... speaking of which i use a paging file that is triple the amount of ram

and it is on an external drive , not the C: ..... also it purges itself at shutdown

nowadays it seems to me lotsa systems work well with many soundcards straight outta the box ....

my Vista rig never had any problems with my Presonus Firebox (firewire soundcard , 3 channels) ( and my XP system sure did)

i think the new 64 bit systems seem to accomodate pro audio better than XP did .....

having said that , the same cannot be said for video ....

just my 2 cents worth

i really believe you can probably save yourself the money , not get a new system and tweak it out

'til it rocks ......
