But really....how much can we digest and how fast can we digest it?
Personally if AT&T was the last provider on the face of the planet, I would resort to smoke signals for communication first.
Burn me once... that's enough thank you.
Ask yourself where they'd be if it weren't for the exclusivity with Apple...because they burned so many people it was curtains and that exclusivity is about to change.
K, so we had the 1,2,3 and now 4G phone and before the 4 is out a week they're talking about the 5.
Now, the 5 is going to be really cool but the name will be different.
It's going to be called the iappendage from Apple.
Now for you 4G schleps that just bought into the game, there will be a special discount credit given for the arm but not the leg you paid for it due to the short lived wow factor knowing the 5 is right around the corner.
So the iappendage will take the left arm because you lost the right arm when you bought in last week, but the good thing is you will never lose it or be without it because it will actually be a part of your body now, thus the i appendage name.
Now don't hurry out trying to be the first to own one, but keep an eye on every media outlet puking the news of it and be first in line behind Moe and his little brother Ron in line all friggin night at your local electronics store.
The factory ring tone that comes with it will be to the BEP imma bee only it will sing Imma moe Imma moe Imma Imma moeron so all your friends with in earshot will know that you are the shit with the latest POS attached at the elbow.
These will be street legal btw, because technically you can't put it down whether you are driving or not.
The good thing is the iappendage being on the left arm will have turn signals built in so you can continue to not worry about signaling other drivers as you have been for years.
I mean really folks, it's a phone...a phone.
The fact that it has a gps that got Steve Lynch and I totally lost in Vegas is pointless.
I mean really, if I want to get on the internet, I use my pc or mac and I don't need a magnifying glass or zoom and scroll left, right, up and down to read what I want to read.
The fact that it has an app to tell me where the dog friendly parks are in my area....c'mon...use your dammed brain for God's sake.
If they have their way they're gonna have virtual head gear strapped to your noggin and you aren't going to see anything in life but their browser if you let it happen.
We're already in crisis state with people who drive and text and use the internet, not to mention the phone which is at least hands free and doesn't take your eyes off the road unless you are dialing.
How far are we going to let them take this?
When two people are sitting at dinner across from each other and both are focused solely on the screen in front of them, we have lost control of life imo.
This is what scares me is the "sky's the limit" mentality that is being sold and marketed as fast as they can get you to sign a 2 year contract.
They are changing people's life styles and the people don't even know its happening to them.
I love technology, but the direction this is all heading is scaring the crap out of me honestly...oh and no more laxatives because there's an app for that too for those moments in the bathroom when things aren't going smoothly.
carry on my isheep friends, but this guy ain't biting.

Did you see Apple has already been hit with a class-action suit over the 4g? http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/07/01/apple-hit-with-class-action-suit-over-iphone-4/ Your right, it never ends.... One of my least favorite terms to emerge in the last 20 years "designed obsolescence" and, every time we flock to the stores it supports that insidious line of thought...

The audio quality in the iphone 4 is dreadful. No custom EQ and the presets have been lowered on ios4 and the volume lowered. I'm sending my one back for a refund and going back to the Omnia HD which is superb. At least in the UK we can buy sim free and choose our own network. The way it's done in the US is very anti competitive, no surprise there then!

Well said Rick.
I never understood this hype about phones.
And as you said it becomes dangerous too, like your example with driving and using the phone.
People ..wake up !

Things are better in Europe where we have more choice, there are still the Apple sheeple but at least they still get a better deal than those of you in North America.

speaking from a industry level... The iphone was launch and day one there were technical problems that couldn't be resolved from the current design.
1) the phone has a problem with reception due to location of the internal antenna. If a person has a problem with the signal going in and out it may be due to the individuals hand (palm) touching the internal antenna which is located on the lower end of the device. Just so happens thats where the average person holds the device in there palm when talking on the phone. It was even noted to Steve Jobs when the issue became known and his quoted reply was - " ...so switch hands!!!" lol
2) The display has "ghost" images ontop of the display that cannot be removed / fixed.
Those are the most commom problems with the design.
So rather than recall and give Apple / Iphone a bad reputation for design flaws. It's easier and more cost affective to redesign and put a little more candy in the enhanced version.

Name a phone that doesn't have an issue. Everyone of them does. If it doesn't do what you want or have too many flaws, get a different one.
Name a carrier that doesn't have an issue. Everyone of them does. If one doesn't work in your area, don't use them and use the other carrier. There are cases for every carrier that shows that they have issues in some areas.
Class action suits? Which one and for what year? It gets tiring after awhile.
Now, what exactly does this have to do with new technology in the DJ world?

It's true that some phones have minor usability issues but these are usually sort out in free firmware updates or definitely in the next revision. Then there is a new phone which has become so popular which launched with many hardware features missing, introduced charging for software upgrades and also release a new hardware revision on a yearly basis which introduces more problems.

CWFLUKE:
The discussion is not flaws and glitches... we are talking about something that is so major that they had to make a whole new design to correct the problem and the primary customer is left with a decision to keep the inferior product or add more money to get what you should have gotten in the first place.
phew.. thats a run-on sentence if I ever seen one!
Now, what there counting on is the common person doesn't know the difference in a bad product and as you say "flaws".
HTC recently launched their new line and before the was launched they has rewritten the whole OS and the devise auto-updated upon activation to clear out known issues, glitches and flaws.
Iphone was a known issue before the launch so they delayed the launch to correct the breach in security in the device. Then they delayed the launch 5 days before release but couldn't keep time back any longer because of HTC new line. The very first day was a success in sales but failure in product design.

Well actually the original rant was about a user "obsession" to the point of never putting the damned thing down and being so obsessed with "apps" and having the latest POS that they'd be willing to stand in line for a weekend to be the first to have one without regard to the actual tested functionality of it.
Now that was a long sentence....
It's a phone people....a GD PHONE....
And now because people are so obsessed with these devices, we have new laws because people can't put them in their proper place when operating heavy machinery or slamming friggin trains into each other or buses full of people and so on.
People are becoming ENTRANCED with the use of these devices to the point where they are killing others.
That was my point about the iappendage more so than the next version G5 for those who missed that point.
And for those who may have been offended, take the point and think about it.
We had a 20 20 series ( a news show ) that surveyed "skilled" texting drivers who actually did this with their families in the car declaring that they were good enough at it. The show filmed the reactions when normal traffic hazards presented themselves while the obsessed drivers were doing their thing and it was quite enlightening.
And you know what else?
Cops with PC's in their cars are just as vulnerable to this distraction while they run plates while they are driving.

The important thing to realize that the "obsession" with this technology is what is causing the problem.
10 years ago, we did not have this problem and the scope of it is astronomical when the statistics now show that its more dangerous than driving drunk or high as stated in that video.

The problem isn't the technology, it's the marketing; McDonalds being allowed to advertise food with toys is a huge problem but if it puts money in peoples pockets its not going anywhere.

that video looks GREAT! plus i would much rather drive drunk than text, j/k good video psa for the cause. i have made my own psa's for text driving for my radio show too. i see too many you (mainly girls) on the highway and roads around my area texting with the phone in the middle of the steering wheel trying to text and look up in between words. just this week i was driving on a MAJOR 4 lane rd and some chick on her phone just started to coast into my lane. i seen her so i waited till i was right up on her bumper and i laid on my horn. the bitch had the audacity to look at me with an evil look as i passed her, still on her phone, as if i was in the wrong. AMAZING!

Does North America not have laws banning the use of mobile phones while driving unless taking a call via a headset? Jesus Christ if not that is just crazy.
Over here it's a hefty fine and penalty points on your license and if your involved in an accident and it can be proved you were using a phone it's off to jail in most cases.

Yeah, Tayla, Beat is correct. There are laws. There are also laws for exceeding the speed limit, driving under the influence and, driving without wearing a seat belt. It all comes down to enforcing, and proving a violation has occurred.....
