Not the best to help you because I don't use CDJ's but you need an external mixer to play CD's, you can only play timecode CD's like that.

Are you trying to play a standard audio CD in the CDJ?
Firstly to use the external inputs you must be in ASIO mode. Then you need to press the "Source" button (just to the outside of each "Gain" knob for each deck. This will then route the CDJ through each channel and you will be able to crossfade and use the channel volume control.
Cheers,
Roy

Actually, I didn't read Charlie's post properly - You don't need the external mixer if running in ASIO mode.
However, the only downside of using the RMX for CDJ's is that if you loose the laptop/shut down VDJ, the RMX is not a mixer so you will loose the CDJ's as well...
It depends on what you want to use the CDJ's for...
Cheers,
Roy

That's why I'm upgrading to the VMS4. Don't gte me wrong I love the RMX, but the VMS4 is the holy grail (well at the moment anyway) as it combines a full analogue mixer with a digital controller/soundcard.
Actually got to hold one today (not play with it though) so I'm a very happy chappy at the moment...

The RMX is very good in my opinion and for a begginer is more than, I use RMX still on a weekly basis.
Don't like joggs on VS4, to close to buttons.

Here are my main gripes with the RMX (which I still love dearly BTW):
1. Output level - This is significantly lower than say CDJ1000's. When DJing the club I have to crank the gain right up to get it on a par with the CDJ's
2. The mic support is absolutely useless. Sound is terrible and you have no EQ whatsoever
3. Lose the software, lose the controller. This means you have to have something else as a backup and then have to route both to your master output, which in most cases requires an external mixer of sorts.
Think of the VMS4 as a mixer and RMX combined in to one unit. The output levels, I have been told, are comparible to A&H and Pioneer which means not driving things so hard from the source. There are two mic inputs on the VMS4 and each has its own mute and EQ.
Finally as mixer, you can use the VMS4 without even connecting a PC - or better still can connect any other device to it knowing that if the worst happens and you get a crash, you can continue with ease.

Would have to disagree there mate. Have got my hands on the beast yesterday (albeit in a passive state!) I can say there is plenty of room for hands and fingers. The jogs aren't too close to anything really.

Now that ADJ have released this product we should get similar versions from other manufactures too, about time! I've only been waiting 10 years..
my biggest gripe with RMX would be Output level especially when linking into clubs, has causeed many a scrap with other DJ's that just don't understand digital.
Beleive it or not, a lot of people have only just gone digital because they've been using Pioneer. Now that Pioneer have stept up, so have they, Seen this a lot especially in the less developed country's I've played in.
