At idle with a song loaded on each deck NOT playing my cpu usage is sitting right around 45% with ocassional skips. Loading songs maxes it at 100% and getting skips and noises. Dedicated dj computer, no anti virus, never sees internet, no other programs running..quite an embarassment at my first gig with it.

I would say your systems kinda of weak. It will max out when you load a track cause its a single core (P4). I would start by trying too up the ram and see how that works. Really you should get a newer system and yes I know easier sadi then done. Trust me I have 3 kids so not always getting what you want is not new to me.

I agree with needing a newer system..i got this one for free actually..but what would cause it to be that high at idle?
geposted Sun 22 Aug 10 @ 10:06 pm
Do u have the skin maximized?? If you do try matching the skin to the screen resolution. Since this is a single core system you will always see a system spike to about 100% while loading songs to the decks, this is normal.

Well I went thru last night and found out how to turn off alot of unneeded windows services. That seemed to help alittle bit. But after playing around with the skins and resolutions that might explain my problem the other night! Big differences in CPU usage between them.
I still find it kind of werid that sitting at idle its now using roughly 20% of cpu, but when I play a deck, or even both, it drops significantly. When a song is loading i haven't seen it peak yet, it stays around 75%. but i'll play with it a few days.

Another thing I notice with my system is you may want to disable video if you aren't using it...
I only have 2 gb of ram on my 4 year Dell and it's working fine...
So have a look at video under Config...
Good Luck and keep us posted...

Well it looks like i have the cpu usage under control now. My new problem is..when deck a is playing, and deck b is loading if deck b jogwheel moves before song has loaded..it causes skips from deck a..
possible memory problem?? i need to get it fixed by tomorrow night hopfully..

I think ive now got that problem resolved too. I switched it to 4.1 out sound card as opposed to rmx and the skipping seemes to have stopped with the jog wheel..

Im having the same problem...upon boot CPU idle is 0%-1%...2% max...upon launching VirtualDJ the cpu at idle is at 40% - 50%...when loading songs...it spikes to 100% (expected) then returns...there is no degradation in audio during this spike for the first few tracks...however, after a while (5-10 mins later) if i load a track, while it is being loaded (appx 3 secs) there is cracking from the track that is playing then if i try scratching (by scratching i mean scrolling through the song during preview :P) or adding an effect the sound degradation occurs again. I use no anti virus, no excessive resources being used in the background as noted by the 1% idle. when using the skin TCmania Bright v.1.1 cpu usage drops considerably from (40% - 50%) to (15% - 20%) but that is only a 2 deck skin...when i use the default VirtualDJ 7 (4 Decks) or VirtualDJ 7 (2 Decks) skins the problem exists or even any other skin...problem occurs with ASIO or WDM

What is your screen resolution?
Try to use a skin that has the same resolution as your screen.
Make also sure that in Config->Performance, Skin Resizing is set to fast and not to quality.
In case you use the 20Days Trial of you LE, all the above are accessible through the Config panel. After those 20days you will not be able to change anything in that Config menu. The solution then would be NOT to maximize the skin on your screen.

holy shit I would never imagine that right skin resolution + right resize setting would take my cpu from 30-40% to 3%... there seems to be something very wrong with the graphical aspect of this software. but the advices worked though!

Skins in VirtualDJ are bitmap-based and designed for a specific resolution(s).
If you resize them, then they must be scaled on the fly by the software, which will take additional system resources depending on your video card's 2D capabilities and whether you have selected fast or quality resizing in CONFIG -> Performances.
For best results, you should always use a skin that matches your computer's screen resolution. For registered licensed users, there are lots to choose from: http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/skins.html

That seems like good advice, however, what about us that may be using another program (say for karaoke) that we want to leave open and would like to be able to see both programs (VDJ and karaoke program). The only way to do this is: Say my laptop is at 1024x728: Then I use a resized 1024x728 skin resized down to 950x712, and my karaoke program is easily resized by grabbing the corners and sliding them in a bit, then I use notepad at a width of 8 characters and 8 font off to the side and use this as my rotation listing.

If you use a skin that is natively a smaller size then there is no problem, e.g: A custom 800x600 skin on a 1024x768 screen will leave spare screen space for another program.
Also, if you choose CONFIG -> Performances -> Fast Resizing then in most cases it will not result in a significant increase in CPU usage. However, the quality of the scaling will be much poorer (Blocky looking pixels if increased, or missing pixels if reduced from its native size.)

Also keep in mind that the RMX uses a lot of CPU. I have to turn my internet card off on my laptop or I will get glitches. My Acer laptop only has 2gigs of memory and it works well, but I should upgrade it soon.

The RMX should not need a lot of CPU - If you are experiencing sound issues then most likely you have performance issues with your computer, or bad wireless drivers that cause high DPC latency spikes when wireless is turned on.
