Topic: Search using a key word (s)

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hi...

I would like to know if there's away to search for a key word...

Other programs let you search for key words by using a star *

If you use *girl* you may get:

--- California Girls
--- Girl Friend
--- Girls just wanna have fun
--- etc...

Can I do this with VDJ...???

I'm asking because sometime I only have a word or two to help be find a song...

Thanks

Has anyone seen or used this app before...???

Here is what I found:

File Naming Tips
We recommend using the .KZ file extension with Karaoke Zip files. VDJ will view a .KZ file exactly the same as it sees a .ZIP file.

Note that VDJ can only read files zipped using the Deflate compression method. Most ZIP utilities use this method as the default, but if VDJ fails to read your ZIP files make sure your ZIP utility is using the Deflate method only.

We also recommend naming the files as Artist Name - Song Name.kz. This will ensure that your songs are easy to find. You can then easily use our exclusive and free ngSearch tool (now included with the Virtual DJ Studio download) to locate songs quickly by keyword.

In addition to placing your MP3 and CDG files into a single ZIP file for each song, you can also rename the ZIP file to have a .KZ extension. VDJ will recognize this as a ZIP file, and doing this prevents Windows from trying to analyze each file when you load a directory of Karaoke files. The disadvantage to renaming your ZIP files is that it will be more difficult to open them in, for example, WinZip, if you need to modify the contents.

If you have a folder that already contains .ZIP files, and you want to rename them all to .KZ, you can do this easily by following these instructions:
Click Start, then choose Run
Type CMD.EXE and click OK
Change to your Karaoke directory
For example, if your Karaoke .ZIP files are in C:\Karaoke, type:
C: [ENTER]
cd Karaoke [ENTER]
(Do not type [ENTER] - this means to press the Enter key). Substitute C: with the drive letter your Karaoke files are on.

Then type the following to rename your .ZIP files to .KZ:
ren *.zip *.kz [ENTER]
If you have a lot of ZIP files in that directory, this process may take a few minutes. Do not interrupt it, simply allow the command to finish working before you close the window.

Please...

Can anyone tell if VDJ is able to search using a KEYWORD (S)

OR

If there's a tool we can download...

Thanks

Yes, if you search for abba it will find all files with the word abba in it.

If you search for abba*queen it will find ABBA - Dancing Queen

NOTE: Your songs must be added to your search database for them to be found by VirtualDJ when searching. Browse to folder(s) where your music is located, right-click on the folder and choose Add to search DB.

You should not need to rename the extension of your karaoke files - They will be found and will work providing that they have been added to your search database. If they are zipped, they will work providing a non-standard compression method has not been used.

If a file does not load, simply unzip it using the built-in .ZIP support in Windows XP and above, make sure that the CDG and MP3 have exactly the same name, then zip them back up again using the .ZIP support built into Windows (Right-click -> Send to compressed folder)

Following your example and here is what I got:

Uisng abba I got all my Abba songs... :) Cool

Using abba*queen I got nothing... :( Not so Cool

Since the seach engin is so cool in VDJ I was wondering why
I wasn't able to us the * as I can with my 12 year-old software
the first time I tried it. This is why I started this thread...

Since jpboggis can us the * on this system,

Does anyone know why this doesn't work on my system...???

Dell laptop with 1gb of ram, 120 gb hard drive running Windows XP and using VDJ 6.1.1...

BTW: I did tell VDJ which directory to seach in by using Add to search DB.

Thanks for your help and second on this jpboggis because I had a feeling this should of worked in VDJ...

Can we please hava a screenshot with the File Infos Window showing that Dancing Queen ?

Here are a few other things I have tried:

queen*a which give me:
--- Ivy Queen y Don Omar - Baby remix ...???
--- Redbone - the witch queen of new orleans ... ???
--- Dana Owens (queen latifah) - Hello stranger ... ???

and a few other which isn't what I'm asking for...

Does VDJ look for Artist and then title or Title and then artist...???

In the above example, if I continue by adding the B (queen*ab) I again get nothing...

Sure... Hold on...

this picture shows what I get with abba* but when I add the next letter the seach goes blank... :(

Click on the options button (Magnifying glass in v7) and make sure that FileName is ticked in the list.

Now (Assuming that your files are named in the order Artist - Title) a search for abba*queen should return the expected results.

Otheriwse, try queen*abba if your files are in the format Title - Artist

:)

That is it...!!!

You need to select the FILENAME

Yes, all my files follow that setup... Artist - Tilte...

Thanks all I hope others got some infornation too...

Wow, I need that... :)

A very Happy VDJ 6.1.1 user... :)

BTW: I read the book and I wasn't able to find this infornation there.
VDJ may want to include this for DJ like me that sometime just can't remember the right title...

Wow... I can also find keywords within the titles now by using *girls*

GREAT...!!!!

Here is what I learn today:

While selecting the Artist and Title within your options work fine,
you can also select filename in their place.

Select this option only if all you files follow a pattern like

Artist - Titles or

Titles - Artist

Also note, that if your files are misname you may not be able to find what you want and need...
Selecting the Artist and/or Title can easily be check becuase you can see them nowever,
selecting FILENAME over the Artist and Titles is not as easily seen. Your need to how your music library is setup and go from there...

Since my music library follow a pattern I will elect to only use FILENAME in place of Artist , Titles under the options...

Thanks again jpboggis and djdad both of your input cleanly help me find my answer...

:)

May your next gig be GREAT...
