here you go charlie, you really got to look at my blog for youtube vids... lol

The only thing 'broke' is the first Mic input on my Yorkville Powered Mixer lol

Other than that we have more work than we can handle & are subbing gigs to OTHER services in our area, most who are friends & acquaintances already, but they appreciate it.

We were just voted/awarded 'View' Magazines Niagara Readers Choice 'GOLD' for Karaoke Hosts.

There is money to be made, but you HAVE to be COMMITTED to doing it FULL TIME!

We have never spent a dime on advertising. We only use free avenues, using F-book, Kijijji, our website, promotional events (such as the fragrance launches I do at SEARS & The Bay where they pay me with 'product' not cash), but amazing how many business cards you can get out at the local mall doing stuff like that. I haven't bought 'cologne' in over 5 years lol

Word of mouth is the key to success in this business. To get that though you have to be COMMITTED & also be reasonably good at the craft.

I wouldn't go to a Doctor or hire a lawyer who isn't FULL-TIME at their profession.

Not sure I would say DJ's are broke as much as they need to work 'Smarter'.

Hope that made sense, I just finished an 8 hour gig lol

I totally agree with djrobinhamilton, i dont do it full time tho and dont do many gig's at all but thats how i like it, i get paid well at the gig's i do do and have got all work thru word of mouth. I seam to give people what they want, this means doing homework and sitting down with clients and going thru songs genre's to play and ones not to play, what lights they want, and if I dont have what they want ill go get it, but there is work out there if you look and work for it.

When on youtube and click on embedded why does it not just give you the right code required to embed the video?

use the share tab usually found underneath the video you want to use, you don't have to worry about the bb code nowadays, this is another tutorial i'll need to update... lol

There are other options available to most DJ's including 'RENTING'.

When I was starting out over 25 years ago I could not afford to buy my own equipment either so I rented for all my gigs. Most DJ's have access to a reputable store or service like ours that will rent you equipment, lighting etc.

You can also purchase much of your equipment 'USED' such as we have in many cases, also from reputable stores or sellers, most you will probably know if you get into the business anyway.

Our 'Previously Enjoyed' collection of gear includes:

4 Chauvet Intimidator Scanners ($100 ea.)
2 Chauvet Vertigo's ($50 ea.)
1 Chauvet Line Dancer ($75)
1 Chauvet Stage Wash ($100)
2 Chauvet Hazers ($150 ea.)
8 Yorkville DJM806 Powered Mixers ($300 ea.)
3 Sets of Peavey speakers ($600 a pr.)
1 Community Dual 12" Subwoofer (which absolutely kicks butt btw) ($50)
1 pr Yorkville Crank Stands ($120)
19" LG laptop that I use for my DJ gigs ($600)
1 pr of Stanton TT's ($100 ea)
1 USED Pontiac Montana $10,000 (my partner has 2 Montanas also & an enclosed trailer for large events)

A whole list of assorted lights & par cans lights that my business partner has at the bar he owns purchased from people getting OUT of the business or bands for next to nothing

Our 'NEW' products include:

Peavey 1500 Amp: $550
American DJ Trussing System: $225
Optoma Projector (bought half price for $300)
Acer Laptop: $1200
2 Chauvet LED Par Cans $100 ea
Denon Mixer & Controller $1200

As you can see for those who don't run a business it is not a cheap business to be in, but if you look up the prices of all the used equipment we have purchased you can see how much money we have saved.

There are far more people wanting to get rid of their gear & getting out of the business than are getting into it. We have gotten some amazing deals by being educated, & using all of our sources to track down the best deals.

Every penny counts in this business, so shop around b4 you go throwing your hard earned cash away. Too bad this guy's video wasn't more constructive as it was more demeaning & beliittling to DJ's in general.

Once you have built up your 'business' if that's what you choose to do like I have, then you can also 'RENT' out your equipment by taking advantage of the fact that yes anyone who owns a laptop thinks they are a DJ, but still need sound & lights for their gig.

Making a living in this business is not rocket science, but you have to use your head & work harder than in many other professions. You get out of anything what you put into it.

Sometimes you also have to think out of the box like our promotional gigs in the malls or some charity work as we do. I did 4 hours yesterday for a local charity b4 my bar gig that got me a 'Thank You' but it has gotten me many other gigs also.

Remember to use EVERY contact you know or make them along the way, for signs, shirts, websites, anything to do with your business. Trade for services. My buddy offered to redo my website if I dj his wedding. My other buddy runs a silk screening operation & had over 400+ people at his stag & doe, so I set up the whole Video Dance set up & have gotten many bookings from doing that even though I only charged him for the basic set-up.

Many people do the 'Bridal Shows' to get booked up & I highly recommend them as your best way of advertising if you are going to spend money. We have only done one many years ago, but are busy enough as it is.

Radio & newspaper ads are a complete waste of your money & time so please don't even bother considering those.

Make every $$$ count gang!

I hope you got it sorted Charlie...humm...its probably what tayla mentions, the BB code..but how does the BB code get unactivated? I've not encountered this problem.just that i was pasting the entire url and not just the part after the = sign....Lol.. like i sayd Jeremy & Terry had to "pound it on my head" before i got it right....its the coolest thing i think...

The problem lyes with youtube, you shouldn't have to remove bit and add bit's in this day and age.

Thanks for your help Tracker and Tayla

yeah kind of wierd,i agree...no prob.
