Topic: Numark MixTrack Pro???? - Page: 1

Ok so about a month ago I began using Virtual DJ 7 to make House mixes...just me, a LOT of music, and a mouse...

I dedicated roughly 6 hours a day for the past 5 weeks and made some really good mixes. I burned a mix on a cd and told all of my friends it was an Axwell Podcast haha Anyway once I told them I was kidding and that I made the mix it was passed on to another person who's in charge of bookings and I got offered a gig at a college frat house which can turn into a weekly thing if all goes well. I know the gig doesn't seem that crazy but to give you a visual it's a 4-floor mansion with a different dj on each level playing different genres; the basement being strictly house music.

I now realize that I need to buy a controller/mixer so I started doing some research. Since I just purchased a MacBook Pro I have roughly $500-$600 left in my budget and figured I'd see what your thoughts were on the Numark MixTrack Pro...It's well inside my budget and the reviews seemed "ok." This is all pretty new to me, so I'm just looking for something to successfully perform my set in front of about 150 people which is scheduled for late January.

I know you guys are the pros here and I just need to be pointed in the right direction so I can make the order and learn the equipment inside out as quickly and thoroughly as possible. I truly appreciate any help, suggestions, or general feedback and know your time is important. Thanks!

thanks! i just read up on some reviews and they say the only possible cons are a "popping" sound when turned on/off and that the tempo slider is extremely sensitive. Anything else from your experience? Other than that it's looking like my choice so thanks again.

hold it right there, brother. check out the 4-mx. same thing, but if you ever get the insane urge to mix 4 decks, you have that ability without having to map a button. same hardware, different intentions.

holy crap the 4-mx looks crazy. just watched a youtube vid...oh the possibilities...thanks!

Agree with DJGCE,

When the newest 4-deck compatibility (Hercules) controller hits stores, I would seriously consider that one.

I do like the Numark entry level product--and it is damn good for entry level. However, if you want to go a step up in quality than yes, go Hercules instead, given the price range you hinted at.

Had an RMX and really did like it. The 4 MX is where I would go with that budget.

i was online and zzsounds has them out

+1 on the Hercules RMX.
I love this thing.

Thinking of buying another one for traveling abroad (flying out of the country soon).
Can't decide between another RMX or Steel (I have two extra sound cards: Maya44 USB and Numark DJ|IO).

I don't think there are such great improvements in the concept of the 4-MX controller compared to the RMX to pay an extra 200 bucks. They only give you a larger jog dial, a shift button for an extra 6 hotcues and a sensor touch feature. The 4 deck option is a mind game because you still have a 2 stereo sound card. So far only American Audio VMS4 and Denon MC6000 give you full 4 decks capabilities with independent control. As far as budget is concerned VMS4 costs $450 and MC600 costs $799 Just a flip of a button you have access to deck C and D that routes the output to 1 and 2 already assigned to deck A and B on the 4-MX. Beware of signal overload to the main output when mixing 4 tracks.
Any DJ should be able to perform with 6 hotcues so no need for an upgrade...The access to deck C and D is already available in the keyboard shortcuts using the Tab key.I even map the 4 respective decks to SHIFT+ABCD for quicker access to the 4 players so no need for an upgrade...Just the sensor touch which is a great feature shouldn't cost me $200...I strongly suggest Numark Mixtrack Pro that gives you access to every option in Virtual DJ layout for only $250. I bought it for portability when doing small gigs but still have full audio and video capabilities.Otherwise I use 2 V7s and X1600 for big gigs.

Regarding using the RMX or Control Steel (as I have the Steel myself) for 4 deck manipulation in VDJ 7, yes it can be done. But the thing that I don't like about using the RMX/Steel for 4 decks control (as opposed to what the new Hercules controller accommodates) is it seems cumbersome to try to control the deck volume as well as the 3-band EQ, on a four decks. Trying to control those settings with the older RMX/Steel is very awkward, and so it seems that the new Hercules controller would make things easier in terms of adjusting the deck volume and 3-band EQ for all four decks, for a lack of better words, he he he (man, what a mouth full). Correct me if I am wrong here.

I have experimented with trying out some mapper settings to make my Control Steel accommodate the 4-deck skin, but I gave up after frustration and ended up thus just going back to the conventional 2-deck skin. Don't get me wrong--4-deck mode is awesome and adds a whole new dynamic to your deejay sets, imo.

This is one of the reasons why I advocate anyone considering buying a new controller to put the new Hercules unit on the list of considerations.

I own the Numark MixTrack Pro, I suggest you get one as well. The Hercules controllers are nice, I have an old MK2 that I used for years but the MixTrack Pro is superior. All the nobs, sliders and buttons you could need and big, touch sensitive jogs. Sound is good, works right out of the box with VDJ7. And the price is so nice, only $250 U.S. Can't beat this one with a baseball bat.

good luck,
T

But the Mixtrack (and the Pro version) has no channel gain controls or any sort of level metering.

My advice would be to go for something that has channel gains and meters.

Metering on the mixtrack pro isn't really essential because you already have them on virtual DJ. In regard to no dedicated gain knobs - I intially found this annoying and admit it is an oversight on numarks part, but you can map one of the fx control knobs for each deck to the gain knobs within VDJ = problem solved. The controls are a bit sensitive but it works. Anyone know how to change the sensitivity for this within VDJ? Imo gain issue aside the Mixtrack pro is a fantastic piece of kit.

on the numark mixtrack pro theres 2 screws on the back of it to adjust the jogwheels hope that helps

Hey guys , I was just wonder were you were getting $114 from , all i can find is $299. Im not really prepared to spend that much

If your MixTrack Pro came with VirtualDJ LE, you can upgrade to VirtualDJ Pro at a discount by going to http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html and entering your VirtualDJ LE serial number in the box provided.

I'm a complete noob at mapping so I was wondering if you could give me a tutorial on how to map one of the FX knobs to control the gain functions.

Thanks,
