I create my playlists with winamp.

Why even bother to make a playlists. So time consuming and pointless. All you need to do is use a code and group by codes

@DJBIGMARK I'm new to djing and would like to organize my library more sufficiently to the genres. Can you elaborate more on this feature to a more understanding on “how to" do this?

Thanks in advance.

The reason I am asking, is because I see a lot of
users who use itunes. I am just trying to understand
their reasoning.
I do not use itunes.
Playlist are made just as a guide.

1. Until recently, iTunes was the only option for writing to ID3 tags.

2. It is also where I buy my music.

3. iTunes Genius, it helps you find tracks you already own that are similar to what you are playing and already own. Which somebody just asked VDJ to do in the "wishes" section of this forum. This is to help build playlists.

4. I have a back up machine were the music drive letters are different. Because of this, playlists made by VDJ on one PC can't be used or backed up to the other. In itunes, playlists can be used on either PC, even if the drive letter is different. Not to mention if VDJ won't run for whever reason, Itch also uses iTunes playlists and worst case, I can always still use ..... ITUNES! 1 set of playlists, 3 programs all use them and I am not stuck without my tools!

5. I can back all my songs and playlists up with my iPod as an emergency backup in the event of a crash. Not that it happens often, but it is one more option until I get back up and running.

I could keep going, but you get the point. VDJ is great and will always be my first choice. But lets face it, the R&D, universal acceptance and priceless tools not yet in VDJ. It is still my primary organization tool.

I use Itines because it can be read by different DVS systems. I use VDJ, Traktor, Itch and Serato and ITunes can be read by all of them. This helps me not recreate playlist over for different systems. I can just jump right in and go to work. My playlist are R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, House. under each of these I have sub categories like hip hop bangers, hop hop old school etc.. I also use codes in the comment section like NHC= new hip hop clean this way when I'm searching I can type in NHC and new clean hip hop appears. Just use whatever system you feel comfortable with.

My music library is over 50,000 titles. I've used iTunes before it was iTunes (SoundJam), lol. Thru all those years, I've built hundreds of playlists in iTunes. And I've used at least 6-10 different software apps for DJ'ing in that time. Like a previous post stated, I can import iTunes songs (drag/drop) into any of those other apps. If I had made lists in those different apps, I would not have the legacy and general data that I built into my single music database, iTunes.

Also, I still use iTunes at a gig because of this example:

Request for Lady Gaga "Just Dance" (video)

I have my music video titles preceded with a "(V)". I know VDJ has some icons to differentiate a music video from an audio file. Cool. Although those icons are so small, they're pretty much useless to me. I am more apt to look (and search for) my (V). So when searching for Lady Gaga "Just Dance" music video, in iTunes, I can simply enter "(V) Gaga Dance" and I get my result - dithered down from probably 20 versions of that song to maybe one or two. Done. From what I can see, I can't do that in VDJ. Or can I? I admit to being a (kinda) new user. And I don't know all the ins/outs of searching in VDJ. But this is why I am still using iTunes at a gig, then dragging the song to the VDJ deck.

Oh yea, I also backup my playlists to 3 iPods, for when the computer crashes. Not if, but when...

Can any one help with the previous post I made to help me understand to help me organize my music more sufficient by the gerns.
