I just wanted to know how many of you DJ's use one of those portable DJ stools to sit while you gig? I know that you have to take a break every once in awhile. So what are your tricks of getting off your feet for a few and give the back a break?

A lot of venues have these new fangled things called chairs! JK I will most times DJ seated at weddings now. At club gigs it usually isn't any longer than 4-5 hours and standing for that length usually isn't an issue provided you can lean on something every now and then.

I will grab a bar stool. at 33 and 17 years as a DJ it takes a toll on my back to stand for 3+ hours for 3 to 5 nights a week.

When DJ'ing at parties I know will start of slowly, like weddings, I use a drum throne set very high (I'm also a drummer, so it's the same one I use for drumming), so I still have a fresh body when the dancing starts.
I never sit when the dancefloor is active

Sit while I dj? Thanks for the idea, never crossed my mind b4! Now that I''ve pushed past 40 might have to consider that novel idea!
Actually I only sit during dinner music at weddings (when I'm not walking around getting personal with the guests) & during karaoke gigs.
When I do, I generally prefer a 'chair' :-)

A fold up might not be a bad idea if you have a van and plenty of room, I can remember on a few occasions the crowed being the type to mingle and drink but not dance, you know the sophisticated bunch. Anyway I couldn't get a chair for love nor money

I have a couple of fold ups with padded seats I use. Bar gigs im on my butt for a good bit of the evening, Private gigs I try to stay on my feet for most of the event.

So I take it isn't not a bad investment to pick one up. Odyssey makes a collapsable one and just wanted to know if 80 bucks was worth it. Its a little cheaper for the one without the back support but I know how it feels to have a seat and your feet telling you thank you. Lol. I'm glad um not the only one that thinks that sitting for a minute is being a lazy DJ!

It's a good idea but I would not kick out $80 for a stool when almost every venue I play (If not each and every one) has a bar stool or chair of some sort for me to use.
To each his own tho...

Being part of the house scene... I've never seen anyone sit during a gig, including myself. But normally the sets only last a couple hours. A bar stool sounds nice though, on those marathon or multiple booking nights. I might have to take a seat. :o)

I have been DJing for 30 years and I still stand all of the time. Does not matter if it is in a club, wedding, school dance, etc. Never had any problems with sore feet or back. If your back hurts, then maybe you need to raise your equipment up so that you don't have to lean over.
