Topic: DAC-3 (maybe other controllers?) and USB hubs issue

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Gang -

I am setting up a mini workstation and want to feed all USB devices via a single powered hub.

Just yesterday, I noticed the pitch left & right were jiitery. You could see the BPM of the track change by a minute amount.

Connect the DAC-3 direct and problem seems to go away.

Now this is under Windows 7 x86 and using a powered generic hub. Toshiba notebook.

Attached is a USB sound device (working ok) and the DAC-3. I also was going to connect a mouse & keyboard in a tray.

There are plenty of ports on the laptop but just wanted something simple to connect. And keep an open port on top in case something needed plugging in.

The power & bandwidth is NOT being exceeded and well under the limits.

Thanks gang!

This is a common problem on the DAC-3.

Sometime the pitch slider can get 'stuck' between two positions and will keep sending them alternatively, resulting in the pitch 'wobbling' up and down by a small amount.

If this happens, simply move the pitch slider slightly.

Thanks!

I thought that was the case and both gentle and slight not so of the pitch sliders did anything to stop.

Funny, never saw it while using on the desktop.

One day I might 'grow up' and get a real controller but so far, I like simple - and DAC-3 is simple. :)

Oh, thread detour (that's ok, it is my thread) the new DENON 6000 something? All the rage so far.

If you were looking for something similar to directly replace the DAC-3 in an existing rack mount system, then the Denon DN-HC4500 would be your best choice. It's a much more modern and higher quality 3u rack mount controller than the DAC-3 and has text displays for artist and song title for each deck. It also has a built-in 4-out (2 stereo) sound card. It can be linked to a Denon X500 or X900 mixer to allow video crossfading with the real mixer crossfader.

The DN-MC6000 is a new all-in-one controller. It has the advantage of being a 4 channel (+2 mic) hardware DJ audio mixer and MIDI controller in one compact unit. The hardware mixer allows you to use another backup source (E.g: iPod) should your computer stop working for any reason. The MC6000 does not have song information displays.

Either the HC4500 or MC6000 will be a great replacement. I have both and they are superb. As above 4500 has displays and 6000 has mixer so it's up to you :)

Only issue I might have is the depth. The DAC is rather a low profile.

As a rule, I always take last year's MP3s and copy them to a folder and merge w/ what I did prev years to compile the ultimate emergency library. That on a ext USB drive would make for a great backup in case of PC failure.

Any known issues? I have only been working w/ 'passive' controllers vs those that have firmware and smarts.

Given my background from a DMC-1 to a DAC-2, then DAC-3, what would (should) I expect?

Learning curve?

Firmware updates?

Mappers?

I am not a wiki wiki style and only scratch when something itches. That said, I would not mind one day learning basic turntablism.

Think I'll stick w/ my DAC-3 for now and/or see if a 4500 will fit in my case.
