Hey so I was looking around at some laptops and came across a few in budget I just need to know about the differences between AMD and Intel. I looked up the system requirements but I don't know what I'm looking for. I wont be mixing video so I should be able to get away with a little bit less... Budget $700... and go!

This is a steal 2nd gen I-5 with HD3000 integrated graphics. dual core with hyperthreading and turboboost auto-overclocking. Better than anything AMD has in mobile right now. Yes you may be able to find an I-7 on clearance but you will be better off with fewer cores at a higher frequency when running just 1 app and some people have had issues with processors below 2 ghz with VDJ.
It also has an e-sata connection for an external hard drive that will give you faster transfer rates because at this price you won't get USB 3.0
4GB of High speed DDR3 and a 640 Gb Drive
TOSHIBA Satellite L655-S5166X

Remember too If you are pretty sure you won't need the internet for requests turn off your WifI while gigging and you can suspend your antivirus scans which should help your machine run smoother - but this is a pretty up to date piece of kit - at least as far as processor - ram and connectivity is concerned.
EDIT: you may see a lot of laptops with Core I-5 480m processors @2.66GHz even though these have a higher clock speed they are a generation older architecture and benchmark approximately 10% slower than the 2410m

Thank you JBart. I think you might be one of the most helpful as well as active members in this fourm... I'll let you know how it works for me in 7-10 business days!

I have the satellite L655, very good computer for the price. As long as you follow the steps to increase performance (i.e. changing the power settings and shutting off wifi, etc.) then you should be good to go.

I recently picked up a used HP (Compaq) with a relatively small intel dual core processor, XP and only 2 gigs of ram for $200 and it has powered my DN MC6000 over and over again with zero issues. I am really amazed at how little computing power it actually takes to run VDJ software. I'm sure anyone can make an argument for spending more on a fancier computer but its really not necessary in my experience. VDJ does seem to abuse single core processors though.

I'm also going to buy a new laptop but it must have a backlit keypad.
Of course there are the Macbooks, but my budget would only be around 500-700€
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I would get a Apple certified refurb Macbook for that price.

This one is very good for the price. The main thing this laptop has over many others is.. It has Windows 7 32 bit. ( 32 Bit usess less resources and will run better with DJ software) 399 is great price. The video card is Radeon HD4250 and the processor is a Athlon 2, 2.2 ghz. The HD is 320 gig @ 7,200 rpm http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0360049

I will throw out an alternative in the PC realm- honestly tough for me to give a true option because I don't know what you can get locally or if it is better for you to source it from the states and have it shipped
I usually stay away form best buy but this is a pretty decent deal and if your collection isn't ridiculous big you can probably get it all on this hd and not have to carry an external drive around. But if you do it has a USB 3.0 port for faster read speeds.
best buy - ASUS G53SW - $1099 aproximately 730 Euro
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ASUS+-+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i5+Processor+/+15.6%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+750GB+Hard+Drive+-+Black/2043071.p?id=1218306948909&skuId=2043071&st=%20G53SW-BST6&cp=1&lp=1
with this one you pay premium for the faster hard drive and significantly better graphics card which will come in handy if you are doing video
Fora little less you can go with a VAIO - my personal choice - love their keyboards :) raised lit keys just like a macbook
Bestbuy Sony Vaio $899 approximately 620 Euro
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+VAIO+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i5+Processor+/+16.4%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+750GB+Hard+Drive/1861115.p?skuId=1861115&id=1218297521957
The graphics card and processor on this one area tick slower but for the price difference it is worth a look especially if you don't plan on doing video
I agree a backlit keyboard is a major advantage in a dark environment unfortunately that severely narrows your choices overall

One additional random thought on laptops
HP laptops are generally the cheapest fora given spec because they have all kinds of online coupons available. After having members of my family got through 3 of them in the last 2 years I will never buy an HP laptop. Very flimsy construction and pathetic keyboards.
I personally find the ASUS upper end or Republic of Gamers laptops to be pretty nice for the price
My two current favorites though are
Sony VAIO - excellent keyboards and pretty reasonable for the performance you get with a small premium for build quality - very sturdy hinge mechanism
Newer Samsung models with the aluminum case - kind of the new kid on the block with thier re-design of their entire laptop culture but I give them high marks for design and durability - they have very limited options as far as components however - pretty much just have to buy the combo they provide - no option to customize a build.

Thanks jbart for helping, but I still haven't found the laptop I want.
I have one new question, is 13" laptop too small for vdj? (assuming it has the right resolution of course)
I think it would be much easier to handle a 13", because I'm more like a mobile DJ.

13" is fine, I would recommend a minimum resolution of 1280x800 or 1366x768 as most new skins are that resolution or above.
Also make sure it has a proper processor and not a netbook one as it will make a difference if you try to work with video.

for this budget on a laptop , you will have a weak system ....
for 800 or 900 you can get excellent desktops w/ 8 gigs of ram and good or better
video.....
for about 1200 you can get laptops with similar performance
on any system whether desktop or laptop , concern yourself with the processor(s) speed and the ram
4 gig of ram nowadays is standard and not any big deal or particularly powerful
also the speed but not the size , of the C: matters .....
your C: is very busy running windows ....it doesn't need any other burdens ....
loss of the C: will cause windows not to boot and the loss of any media stored on it ....
so , storing media on an external drive is a good idea ....
you only need the C: to be fast and reliable , not large ....
these are general buying guidelines .....
for brand names i like HP , Gateway , ASUS ......

I'll have to agree with everyone else, just get a refurb macbook pro, 13'' is fine. I've had mine for about a year now, and i'm never looking back.
