Hey DJ Family,

I have to do a karaoke party on MONDAY. I have downloaded VDJ onto my macbook. (1st time loading VDJ on a mac). I would like to use my NS7 with VDJ doing karaoke.

Heres my problem...

I have NEVER used VDJ on a mac.

I have NEVER used VDJ with my NS7.

I have NEVER done karaoke with VDJ.

I'm gonna need help and instruction from point A thru Z.

I am a total noob when it comes to VDJ on mac, total noob to VDJ with NS7, total noob with karaoke thru VDJ.

Any help out there for me?!?

I'm thinking of getting a Numark Mixtrack Pro to avoid possible NS7 problems and / or issues I might encounter with my NS7. I really want plug and play and for everything to work PROPERLY right out the box.

I'm surprised no one has offered any help or advice yet.

Anyone?
 
I know nothing about Macs. but I do know that if your karaoke files are MP3+G you should have no problem playing them with any controler. They load just like any video would.

How is the Mixtrack Pro for what i'm trying to do?

I have Hoster for karaoke now (KMA Files) but i'm about to purchase a BOATLOAD of standard karaoke files that I can use through VDJ.

I am trying to find out if the Mixtrack Pro is any good for my purposes.
 
I tried using VDJ with my Mac but it was a pain compared with using my PC. Everyone says to bootcamp it but I'd rather use my PC lappy with VDJ and my Mac for Serato...

Hey djcity I also have Hoster program for karaoke shows, but been using it less and less lately because Hoster keeps erroring out after videos in VDJ. Are you using your Hoster and VDJ at the same time..?
 
Wait a minute..........am I missing something here? I have a karaoke party on Monday, it's Thursday, so let me try everything new. I don't know shit about karaoke, VDJ and karaoke, VDJ & Karaoke & a MAC, VDJ karaoke & a MAC & a NS7, but let me get this all together, so I can be ready on Monday to do a great job??????? FFFFFFFFuuuuuuuucccccccckkkkkkk, this is a bad day to quit smoking crack and meth at the same time. Why are you putting yourself through this much pressure, when doing the karaoke is pressure enough? Why not go with what works now? If VDJ works for you now, why try this crazy learning curve, for three days?

I normally use Holster to do karaoke. It's not a bad program but it can be a pain in the ass sometimes. It uses propitiatory KMA files. This in itself is not a problem.
What IS a problem is that Holster is PC only. My NS7 does not really play all that nicely with my windows based laptop.

The other problem is that I have to run VDJ and Holster at the same time, minimizing holster while I use VDJ to Dj. Total pain in the a$$.

The next problem is that I have to update my karaoke files. Holster uses KMA only. It will convert any karaoke format to KMA but.....Why go through all that if I can just use VDJ to run karaoke AND Dj at the same time?

The other, other problem is that Holster and VDJ can't share the NS7 soundcard. I have run both Holster and VDJ through the computers soundcard and connect that computer soundcard to the "aux in" on the NS7 via 1/8 to RCA.
TOTAL PAIN IN THE A$$!!!!!

Now, in order to use VDJ correctly, I "think" I want to use a Mixtrack Pro with my Macbook and VDJ for karaoke. I am thinking this will make my life MUCH easier. Even if I use the Mixtrack with my Windows based laptop, I still think I might make my life easier.

Thats my dilemma.
Thats why I am asking for help.
Thats why i'm trying to push it in such a short time frame.
 
I use One sound card for Hoster and VDJ with no problems, and I also have Hoster hooked up to my second sound card which is a MK2 with no issues, the only issue I really have is when I do a long video session in VDJ then try to use Hoster. the video doesn't render and it errors out Hoster..

I believe it has something to do with VDJ not clearing out the video buffer drivers, because when you try to turn off the video in VDJ you often get a "Video Driver Error" message...But if there is no video driver error in VDJ when turning the video off, then Hoster will render the lyric screen with no issues. If your just using VDJ for audio, then you'll be fine...
 
DJ City, I understand that you want to use your controller, but if I'm not mistaken, this controller works with VDJ and PC. I just went to the Hoster website to see the software, because I know nothing about it. It looks like a great program for someone that does a lot of karaoke. I know you already own it, so you want to use it. I just can't see trying to jump through all these hoops, for a gig on Monday. I can do most of that stuff and have live camera feed, with VDJ, and the karaoke plug-in. I don't blame you for trying, but what is your back up plan, if you can't get all this stuff to work?

Another thing, is it really possible to have two programs running, and sharing the video card? I tried that with another karaoke program, Tricerasoft. The two programs did not like to work together, so I only use VDJ. Now, karaoke is not my main thing. I only did it once a week, and just stopped in March.

Ok, broke out the Mac & dusted her off. Fired up and for the sake of this post I downloaded the latest version.04. Plugged in my NS7, loaded a deck, push play and instantly realized why I now use a pc. That tin can warble sound was spewing through my speakers like a bad karaoke singer.
I downloaded the latest version of Itch and even re-installed Numark drivers only to hear the same crap.
Fired up Itch, the sound is AMAZING, but lets not go there.
I hope you have better luck with your Mac, but if you hear the warble with the new version, 6.05 I think, works, but no mic if my memory is correct. In which case, you'd have to run the mixer like I described earlier.
The MixTrack Pro is looking better at this point.

@djcity how do you have your sound card setup in windows, I believe the reason why Hoster is not working is because you need to set up your NS7 in Windows as the default sound card.

Go in device manager and disable Realtek HD Audio and any other soundcard your not using, then go into control panel and open "Sound and Audio Devices" look in the Audio tab make sure the NS7 is the default Device for playback and sound recording, then click on Voice tab and default the NS7 for voice playback and voice recording, this should make it start working.... if it doesn't try rebooting, open "Sound and Audio Devices" again just to make sure nothing has changed then try again...

My karaoke gig turned out to be..............

VERY GOOD


I gave up on the NS7 and purchased the Mixtrack Pro. I converted all my KMA files and used VDJ to do the whole show.

I KILLED IT!!! (in a good way).

I am now the permanent Karaoke DJ for their Monday Karaoke

Does anyone know a GOOD site to download current karaoke? I need new music from THIS YEAR! Current Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, Top 40.

I have seen sites offering older tunes but I need new stuff. I'm in a Very urban venue and need to continue to please that crowd.
 
 
OK So I need just a little more help.

I am using my Macbook Pro but I can't get the video window to expand to full screen on the 2nd monitor.

Any ideas on how to fix this???
