Topic: Virtual DJ and video

Hi guys

I would like a little bit of advice from those of you who use video through Virtual DJ please as I'm looking to upgrade my current Pro Basic.

My setup at the moment means that video content is played from DVD/CD files in a seperate, stand alone, DVD player to the digital projector using the yellow video input and I also feed a powerpoint presentation via a second laptop using the standard DSub socket.

This means that when I want to play a video, after cueing in the player, I cycle through the source button on the projector remote (giving an irritating blue projection screen) and then blank the screen until I'm ready to play. The reverse takes me me back to powerpoint.

My thoughts were that I could use Virtual DJ to provide the video feed via DSub and put both that and the powerpoint through a switch box - much neater I had guessed.

The mechanics work ok apart from the VDJ/video laptop forgeting what was on the extended desktop everytime I switch across to the powerpoint laptop. So when I want a video to play I still have to have a distracting projection screen whilst I drop and resize the video onto the extended desktop. If I blank the screen I can't see what I'm doing!

Am I coming at this from the wrong direction, is there a better solution or is that the best and I have to accept it?

Just a bit of background. I'm not a heavy weight mixing Dj. I run themed nights and the occasional music video provides just extra interest.

Your advice and comments would be welcomed thanks.

You could get an external video mixer to feed the projector.

Thanks, nice idea - But what a price!

Anything else that could be within my budget?

This is an easy fix. You can easily change the colour background on the projector to black in it's setup. So, when you switch, the audince sees a black screen not an empty blue one that rapes your eye. I have experience with this as well. To keep your costs down, you really should consider having a projector with two VGA inputs instead of one. Then you would use a VGA cable for VDJ and a VGA cable for powerpoint. Then switching will be easier.

I actually run boh programs similtaneously. But you can only activate one video out on your "softwares" at a time. Play with it and have some fiun.
