Topic: Clip Banks in VDJ 7 - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

Has anything changed in version 7 for duplicating clip banks? In version 5.xx, I had multiple clipbanks... maybe 12 or 15 total. I just copied the standard clipbank DLL and renamed it, and then re-loaded it with new clips. The DLL would then generate the BMP file to match the DLL name.

But now I am rebuilding my banks in Version 7, and when I copy the DLL and rename it and reload it, the bitmap that is created remains as clipbank.bmp - no matter what the DLL is named. That means that every clipbank I create has the same thumbnail selection preview box.

Am I doing something wrong?

Am I the only one using more than one clipbank? It seems like VDJ 7 is making the clipbank not be duplicatable.

Can somebody familiar with clipbanks confirm that they are able to duplicate the DLL and have different preview box thumbnails showing?

You need to have ClipBank.dll, ini and bmp created in the "Video Effects" folder, then moved them into a "New Folder" before you can create a new one. Once the second one is created, name it so it's different from the others and move the next set into the "New Folder", continue this process till all are created and moved to the "New Folder" and... done...

Now you can NOT Swap a ClipBank while VDJ is open and running, this will not work, the program has to shut down before you can swap out with a new clipbank set as follows..

Highlight the new clipbank.dll, ini, bmp together in the "New Folder" and "Copy" them to the main "Video Effects" folder and click OK to overwrite the current default clipbank so the new one will take effect in VDJ on startup once clipbank is activated...

I wish a ClipBank was swapable, but its not....

Good Luck,

Joey...

Well this is NOT the way it was in version 5. I had about 12 differentely named clipbanks all in the VIDEO EFFECTS folder and it worked fine, as long as you only selected one at a time.

Are you saying there can only be one clip bank residing in the video effects folder?

No, only one clipbank will default, if you use the Random plugin it will work with the default clipbank, but you can manually activate and change the clips on another clipbank...

I have several clipbanks with different names and switch between them with no problems in version 7.0.4 :-)

Soulman.... are you copying the standard clipbank DLL and renaming it, and then re-loading it with new clips? Is the new DLL generating a new BMP file to match the DLL name?

When I copy the DLL and rename it and reload it, the bitmap that is created remains as clipbank.bmp - no matter what the DLL is named. That means that every clipbank I create has the same thumbnail selection preview box.

Can you tell me exactly how you are creating a new clipbank?

DJ Soulman... are you around?

Can you comment on exactly how you get multiple clipbanks accessible without shutting VDJ down to copy DLL, INI, & BMP files?

I am not sure why on earth you would want to do it without shutting VDJ down, its hardly a thing you would need or want to do in a live situation so I really dont see what the problem is.

Prep them before the gig

That's exactly my point... I want to prep them before the show.

But version 7 does not allow you to create more than 1 clipbank like version 5 did. But DJ Soulman seems to have found a way.

Guys, all you need to do to get multiple clipbanks without having to shut down is follow this (I'm running 7.4)

go to your plugins > video effects

locate the original clipbank > .dll - PDF & BMP files

copy those three files and paste them some where convenient like your desk top

rename each one the same such as clipbank.2 or whatever you choose to name it

after you have renamed each one exactly the same copy and paste them back into the plugins > video effect folder

repeat this process with the original files on your desk top until you have the required amount of clipbanks that you want

you can now open up VDJ and activate either your original file or clipbank.2 and load up and play, remember to deactivate your running clipbank before activating another set of clipbanks

you will not have to shut down VDJ during a show if you follow that proceedure.

On a side note anyone having problems with clips either greyed out or just black in clipbank.

Anyways hope that helps.

Yes that is exactly the procedure I am doing. But everytime I paste the group of 3 files back into video effects folder And then select one of the clipbanks, the system proceeds to write a new the bmp file for that clipbank called clipbank.bmp. So while I have clipbank1.dll, clipbank 2.dll clipbank3.dll,etc.... they all generate only one bmp file called clipbank.bmp. therefore they all show the exact same preview box.

And yes... I do get greyed out boxes for some files.

Try using the original files where all of the boxes are empty, when you have made a second copy open up VDJ then load up each box, deactivate and close VDJ, reopen VDJ and see if that works.

If your following the proceedure above Eric I'm not quite sure how I can help you but I'll see if I can find the problem.

The problems with doing it the way you describe tayla,
You can't use the "Randomizer" plugin to change and control the clips, you can't use "Shortcuts" to trigger a change either, they Only work with the default ClipBank.dll, Not any other clipbank2.dll.

The Only way to make a New ClipBank.dll swap work properly, is the way I described in my previous post, which will require you to "Shut Down" VDJ.

A new ClipBank.dll set needs to replace the current set in your Video Effects folder, with "No Name Change" to ClipBank.dll, then restart VDJ again,.... Only then will it work properly when you activate "Randomizer" plugin or use "Shortcuts".

You can however use all you can create manually and they all will render once activated, but you'll have to change the clips Manually.....

If you need to make a new ClipBank for example "ClipBank Rock.dll", "ClipBank Reggae.dll" or "ClipBank Techno.dll", do the following,

1. Go and open your /video effecs folder.
2. Right click and add new folder, Name it "New ClipBanks".
3. Copy Clipback.dll and Clipbank.ini files Only to new clipbank folder.
4. Go and open "New ClipBank" folder.
5. Highlight both files right click and choose copy.
6. Rename one set "Techno" and the other "Rock" as per example above.
7. Highlight both sets and copy into your "Videieffect" folder.
8. Open VDJ open effects tab and open your 2nd "Video Effects" tab on the left.
9. Your new clipbanks will show up near the top.
10. Populate each with appropriate clips...

You can make as many as you like using the steps above, but you can only trigger the clips within the bank manually...

Good Luck,

Joey...

@Joey, actually there are no problems at all if you follow the same formula as I've shown further up the page with the random plugin, just make sure all four parts ie, the clipbank - .dll > pdf > BMP & clipbank random to be used are named in the exact same manner, see Scotts explanation here for using the randomizer...

http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/4505/Clipbank_Random_Video.html

Remember you must always open the same named random plugin first then the actual clipbank you want to use, deactivate in reverse when choosing a new clipbank and then repeat process.

I haven\'t tried using short cuts but the same amount of movements are only needed using a mouse, maybes the short cuts are causing the problems you are experiencing.

Once again guys follow the steps I\'ve shown further up the page and you should have no problems. unless maybes you are using short cuts...

OK gentlemen, this is what I just did. I downloaded 7.04 to my office machine, so I have a fresh copy. I opened the video effects folder, and there was only one clipbank.dll file. I made a new folder calling it new clipbanks. I copied the clipbank.dll file and put it in the new clipbank folder, twice. I renamed these files clipbank2.dll, and clipbank3.dll. I then copied these two files and put them into the video effects folder. I closed VDJ, just to be on the safe side, and reopened. All three banks were listed in the video effects menu. I put one clip into each bank. they opened just fine. I was even able to play all at the same time, without deactivating the previous clip. They just opened on top of the previous one. Thanks guys for making this easy enough so even I could understand. Can I now get rid of the that new clipbank folder?

My question now is, why do I have so many files on my gig machine? There is a clipbank.dll, .ini, and .bmp in the video effects folder on my gig machine, yet there is only one clipbank.dll on the version I just downloaded.

Joey, not to be impolite but that is a dumb question you have just asked, I've used clipbank since the day it was released and yes I always make sure I know exactly what I'm talking about before I make a reply in the forums.

Follow the steps I have supplied earlier in the thread above your later instructions and don't use short cuts, just use the mouse until you see that it works.

Then apply your short cuts and see if that then works, if it doesn't you know where the problem lies.
