Hey gang..

Silly question you will probably think but i honestly don't know...is the vdj mac database cross compatible with the vdj pc version? A fellow dj has mac but we use pc at the club so i am wondering if her database would be able to be seen with our vdj pc version?

Thanks.

I'M not sure but my Mac picked up my folders from my pc external HD, without any problems.

The database on an external drive is cross-compatible, but it must be FAT32 format for Mac to be able to write to save changes to the database (Unless you have a 3rd party utility installed that allows writing to NTFS drives.)

If you wish to transfer the database for the internal drive to another computer (The one in My Documents\VirtualDJ on PC or /users/YOURNAME/Documents/VirtualDJ or /users/YOURNAME/Library/VirtualDJ on Mac), then you will need to manually edit the paths for all the files in the database, e.g: C:\Music -> /Music and PC style backslash \ with Mac style /. You must also have exactly the same folder structure and file names on both computers.

Just to make sure I understand...

if she does her database maintenance (analyzing, etc) on her MAC she can plug in the drive on the PC and all the information should be there as long as the drive letter is the same, correct?

Yes, it's only the file path that requires to be changed. There are utilities that allow mac to pc drve access and vice versa.

Jay,

With an external drive - the quote above is all you have to worry about. The drive must be a FAT32 formatted drive - only way both Mac and PC can each see the drive(s) and write to the drive(s). Everything else is plug-n-go.

Don't worry about all the internal drive stuff - that's not what you are asking. And, Don't worry about drive letter stuff. It will be fine.
