I use the firetext polug in on my main system which is a Dell XPS15 running Windows Vista. I have a Sony VX2100 video camera and using the firewore connection, it works perfect. I set up another system with a HP Pavilion DV7 laptop running Windows 7 Home premium and I can't get the video camera to work with the Firetext plugin.
I verified that the firewire port is functional by going into device manager. I also can access the video camera's feed if I use the standard Camera plugin that comes with Virtual DJ, but I have the occasional vertical white lines that flash on the screen every 2 seconds, but that shows me that the software and camera and firewire are working. When I open Firetext, I click on the camera tavb and have three choices: HP web cam, HP Web cam filter and Microsoft DV camera. The third choice is the same one that shows on my system that works. I select the Microsoft DV camera, click activate and the play button on the camera tab and the main screen uses the built in camera on the laptop instead of my Sony Camcorder that is attached via the firewire. I have shut down and restarted several times, checking my connections and settings, but it's the same thing everytime. It just uses the HP built in camera instead of the Sony Camcorder. If I switch to the regular camera plug in, it uses the Sony Camcorder, but again, white vertical lines and less options. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

blaide, looks like you have a couple problems.
Does the software that came with the Sony VX2100 also display the occasional white lines outside of VDJ on Win7 ?
I would like to know how it plays in Essential Media. If there are problems with it here, I can help trouble shoot the issues.

Thanks for the input Don, if I can remember rightly I helped a guy with a similar problem a few month back and may help your users with this problem.
@blaide, if you you have an on board web camera(s) please disable it, hopefully this will be the fix you need.

Hi, it's been a while since I've been able to get back to you. No, no white lines in Windows 7 on my desktop. That other peice of software is another video camera plugin? I'll have to look into it and try it out to see if it fixes my problem. Wish I could get the Firetext plugin to work on this system as Firetext does everything I need it to do except for the annoying logo water mark.

Did you try this yet? If so, what happened?

OK, got it workiing. Thanks Tayla for the suggestion to disable the camera. I didn't have top do that with my Dell laptop system, but it was what was needed on this HP Pavilion evidently. Funny that the Sony name does show in the camera options. It worked on the HP filter name. Had to play with it by opening and closing VDJ a few times, but now it works. Thanks again, now I have a thord fully functional system up and running.

Are you getting the white lines using Firetext or when using another plugin.

Id like to use my sony handycam model DCR-CR42 to capture live video using virtual dj 8. I thing virtual will not recognize the camera because its not under device manager/imaging device/camera (where the built in camera its also located and virtual dj would recognize it but I'd like to use the sony)instead its located under universal bus USB controller/as a USB hub or something. The sony camera works ok with the software that came with the capture stick (by kworld) but like I said I need virtual dj to find under imaging device (Am I rigth?). Im using the camera option that comes originally whern I purchased virtual dj 8 software. Do I need to download another plug in? Im using windows 8 OSThank you. Edgar
