PC or Mac? Does VDJ Pro run better on a PC or Mac? And which incurs more glitches and freeze-ups while mid-set?
Love to hear from all people, but especially interested in those that use the same Denon as me.
Even if you just view this post but don't want to discuss it much, at least reply with only 2 or 3 letters (PC/Mac).
Thanks,
~Cocco~

Get a Mac. Mac runs lower in latecity plus, you can bootcamp, Windows runs better on a Mac than a pc using only windows. Windows has a alot of thrid party software while mac Os is just Mac.

I haven't touched the PC version of VDJ in years, but the Mac version has worked fine for me for a long, long time. As a general use computer Mac blows PC out of the water. So, my answer is: Mac.

The Mac doesn't run Windows 'better' than a PC. The Mac is a PC as its the same architecture.

I use a PC and it works fine for me. I do mostly video mixing and I have done gig for 9 hours straight with a problem. I also have a MAC but I don't use it because of the limited effects. MACs are great and PCs are great; you just have to find the right specs.

1500~2000 for a mac or 800-1000 for a top range quad core laptop

hackintosh, all the best bits of both, so you get twice the system at half the price of a new mbp

never had a problem using with a pc. i think the important thing is that your rig has reliable and decent performing components, ie good graphics, large memory, fast processor etc.
pc vs mac using vdj isnt really an issue, just how good your pc or mac is:)

Used Windows Vista for 2 years with now big problems (still always had a hum and a bit of fuzz sound that I was able to get down to a minimum, but not completely)
Then bought Mac, and I'm never going back.
No fuzz no hum, no headache, just play and go.

Best option imo

I had used PC's to DJ since 2001 and had the occassional glitches, but nothing that couldn't be fixed or tweaked somehow.
Switched to a mac about a year ago, using VMS4. Had lots of driver, audio, etc. issues, but most were apparently due the VMS4 because I upgraded to the Denon MC6000 and it works very well with the Mac, aside from one issue which was fixed with a firmware update, so not related to mac vs pc. The mac is a pleasure to work with overall, and very dependable.
However, I do find myself missing alot of the extra features that you get with the Windows version of VDJ, especially video effects. I thought I could live without them, and eventually more would be written or I would write mac (openGL) versions of those that I really missed, but haven't really have any time to do that.
So, I am currently dusting off my previous pc laptop (XPS m1710) to start using with VDJ again (after the busy summer party season has cooled off, of course) It's a little old, but it's the same horsepower as my MBP, plus it has other features like S-Video out and 1920x1200 resolution LCD, and dockable.
So in summary, if you are not concerned about the extra effects, have the extra cash to spend, and don't have the patience/time/knowledge to tweak a PC, you will probably be happier with a mac.

Thank you very much for all the responses. I will weigh them all, review more sites and specs, and make a decision about which direction I should go. For now, I will continue to use my stripped down, bare-bones PC. It's an HP; 2.6GHz; 582GB; 6GB RAM; dual-core (I think 5300rpm, which doesn't sound right to me, but I can't find any other #'s for processor speed); 64-bit OS, running Vista. Does that sound like it should work just fine? Maybe aside from the Vista part. Should I consider upgrading to Windows 7? Is that free by any chance?
I do need to find out why VDJ keeps glitching out and freezing up on me randomly mid set. But that's another issue. Or maybe it's not. I gotta get passed it though.
Thanks again everyone,
~Cocco~
