So, as I see it, I bought the Numark Mixdeck purely as a controller for Virtual DJ, not for the CD or USB capabilities, but apparently that's all I can use it for...
VDJ LE is stripped down more than the free version and the only thing that works on my controller is a few midi controls, cant scratch, or even hit play. Seems to me the program that comes with a controller should be able to let me communicate between program and controller..?
So basically my question is, do I have to upgrade to pro just to use the Mixdeck I purchased? Do I have to pay $200 extra just to be able to communicate my controller with the program? Or is there something wrong with current drivers and softwares? (all installed)

Well the free version is basically so guys or gals can test out the software, so yes it has a few more features but the software will reset itself after 10 minutes. Now as for not being able to press play sounds like something is not right..... I know the LE or "light version" is limited, you can't map buttons or download plugin or effects but our should be able to press play, stop, etc, etc.......
I had already had the pro version so I'm not sure what it can't do but when I get home ill install it and see. I would recommend getting the Pro Version anyways, its well worth the money.
Sorry i couldnt be more help

you probably just need to change the settings of the mixdeck to midi, and be aware nothing in the mixer section can send midi messages to control vdj's features

that seems a bit of a pointless act, not to make the mixdeck mixer section midi capable. i thought it would have been.

But not at that price point though!

Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/MixDeck.html on the page http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Controller%20Configuration%20And%20Troubleshooting.html
Upgrading to Pro is not necessary unless you wish to access the additional features/capabilities that are not present in LE - Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html

this is very true keith, although it would be a nice addition to the unit, are the jogs on the mixdeck still the plasticy type?

Yes they are and I would rather use an external mixer vs. the digital mixer. It sounds WAY better, besides its like anything else midi, you can just map whatever you want........and I wouldnt call $700 bucks pocket change either. And last but not least, Numark will be releasing the Mixdeck Quad soon and it has a MIDI mixer with 4 channels so problem solved.
Good Day
