Topic: now update xmls help.

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

thanks to majic for adding my two xml files together for me.theese are for my back up external hds.all backup vids on two 2tb external hds and when working have my vids on two seperate 2tb hds for loading and playing purposes.
after reading several posts now ive decided to give my hds their own identity by changing drive letters to say drive x/y/z ect.
i just need to know by people who already did this to tell me if im right in the way to do the following.
and yes before i try this my xmls are backed up.

A- replace drive letter on hd to say y in admin panel,
B-open a copy of new xml in text editor and find :E/
C-replace all with :Y/.
when im saving new xml what way can i name it - virtualdj database v6 Y.xml is this ok dont understand if dots/letters make a difference.
now delete old xml on drive and replace with new xml.

so now do i need to go to browser in vdj and do a check/clean/fix to remove old E entries.
and then re -add hd to search database.
ive been updating all my file info the last three weeks so this will finish this project for me and now just update new vids when downloaded and added to hd.
any help appriciated as usual.

you can't rename XML file the way you want it.

It has to be in ROOT of EACH DRIVES as

VirtualDJ Local Database v6.xml

thanks majic didnt want to keep mailing you lol.
so arethe above steps the right way to do what i need to do

I think if VDJ removes the DRIVE letter in the DATABASE, it would make it easier for all.

Instead of

<Song FilePath="D:\Downloads\Mikis Theodorakis - Zorbas Dance.mp3" FileSize="4412839">
<Display Author="Mikis Theodorakis" Title="Zorbas Dance" Color="10100607" Cover="2" Tag="1" />
<Infos FirstSeen="1109170016" />
</Song>

it would be

<Song FilePath="\Downloads\Mikis Theodorakis - Zorbas Dance.mp3" FileSize="4412839">
<Display Author="Mikis Theodorakis" Title="Zorbas Dance" Color="10100607" Cover="2" Tag="1" />
<Infos FirstSeen="1109170016" />
</Song>

This way we don;'t have to worry about DRIVES LETTERS when the XML is moved to another drive (as long as the folder tree is the same, everything is good)

i agree mate.for new beginners nad even old users this would be a lot easier to keep databases and xmls in oreder.
so if i do what i say in my first post all should be good with hds

everything else is good (except this y:/ ti should be y:\)

Since it's External Drives, it might change the Drive LETTERS when plug in (guesing) if plug into diff USB ports.

cheers pal.i just used this as example.ill just copy paste drive letter in find all and replace it with y and replace all.

The drive letter is simply a 'place holder' and not directly used in determining drive location - it is not an absolute value. It will use what ever the drive's REAL letter or identifier is in place of the stored drive letter. This is even true when swapping from a Windows OS, which is using letters; to Mac OSX, when it uses Volume/HD numbers.

If you are Consolidating content, copy the folders/files from the old drive (not the database files) to the new drive; then all you have to do is have the original drives and new drive plugged in at the same time - do a recurse from the root directory on the NEW drive and VirtualDJ will build a new XML file using the original drive XMLs for the information about the files.

do a recurse from the root directory on the NEW drive ?

From the left browsing panel, go to where you see the drive letter for your new drive - right click on the drive letter and chose the first option - RECURSE

cstoll i recursed the drive but it did nothing to to xml as my updated information was missing.(not even syre what the recurse does).
ive spent weeks updating file info so im going to try edit xml that magic merged for me and replace all with z (new letter for my drive i assigned)
and rename xml and delete old xml from root of drive

just sent you a XMl file with Z:\ Drive path.

got it mate sent you back emails cheers
