Hi Everyone.

I have a 18th & a 21st joint birthday party on Saturday. Has anyone else done this type of party. What music did you play, although I expect alot of chart R&B etc. Can anyone else recommend a Playlist or something.

You're a DJ - you should know what to play!

At the very least, you can work on the "What music was around when they were younger?" method.

They're 18-21 now, they probably started listening to 'grown up' music at around 10 years old, so play stuff from around 10 years ago (i.e. 2000) to the present day.

No doubt they'll also know stuff that's older, but the older it gets, the less likely they are to know it (unless it's a real classic).

Best way though is to get a shortlist from the client, and work (branch out) from that.

Assuming they'll want R&B when they're into goth rock would be a bad move!

I just did an 18th B-Day party this past weekend. Bunch of college kids. Mainly played House, Electro and Dubstep. :) But then again that is what is popular in my area for that age group and it is what I am known for playing.

Hi, yeah I'd get a list from them of the kind of stuff they'd like to hear, that'll give you a good starting point. One 18th recently I was playing Queen - Don't Stop Me Now and cheesy stuff, but then another lot wanted lots of club/dubstep stuff. It just depends on the crowd.

What!

Sorry but come on, do you want someone to hit the play button as well.

How did you end up in this situation, do you specialise in doing 50th wedding anniversaries?

Do you keep up with the charts at least.

Yes, many times .... and they're not easy.

To put it bluntly, unless you have a very good knowledge of UK chart music over the last couple of years and especially now you are screwed!

Ironically you tend to find that a crap 18 year old DJ with chart music knowledge will do a far better job than an experienced DJ who doesn't keep up to date .......

I would personally recommend Burt Bacharach mixed with Skrillex......Cant miss!!!!!

Always get a list of at least 15-20 songs of what they definately want 2 hear....if all of them are Rap/R&B then u know that's what you need to play....then you need to ask if they want clean music or can you play the explicit versions.... Don't go in blind ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS get some type of list... or at the very least a Genre
