Topic: OK Really Not Happy with VDJ for MAC - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

OK so I just received my new MBP I7 2.0 ghz running Lion and installed VDJ.

The whole reason I got a MBP was it's reliability.

Well before I got my MBP I was using my Dell Studio Duo core running Win7 Home

Mixing video's was great on my Dell no matter what format I used, MKV, MP4, FLV etc

Well so far my MBP cannot play back MKV, MP4 without lag, jitter sync problems.

WTF, I thought what a waste of money on the MAC...

Well before I threw in the towel I decided to try another VDJ software (PCDJ DEX)
No lag or sync problems, I still prefer the layout of VDJ but it is useless with these problems.

Since other software can playback without issues, and VDJ can playback on a PC without issue, I have narrowed it down to the MAC version.

I just started the 20-day Pro version on my LE version, but will not upgrade if there is not a fix for this problem.

I really do not want to use another software, so please tell me there is a fix for this

Thank-you

hi bro, have u tried to delete ALL information of the vdj and reinstall it ? i have the 2gb macbook air with i5 i belive the early 2011 and it works GREAT with ALL type of formats... and also works great in a 27´ imac with 4gb of memory, maybe u need to download a eraser program or som like that... it MUST work on ur setup... what kind of controller are u using?

Well it is a brand new MacBook Pro

I am using the Hercules MX4.

It works great on my Dell Studio, but not on my MBP.

It might be large files as this MKV & MP4 files are +100 mb each.

But what does not make sense is that using the PCDJ Dex, there is no lag.

Also what is strange is that on this file when I stop or pause the video continues to play without sound.

I played this same video with VLC and PCDJ on my MBP without problems also on my PC without problems.

I've got a late 2008 ( pre unibody) with no issues. 2.4 g 4 M ram.
I just stopped using vdj a year ago because of limited effects for Mac ...I was tired of people telling me I could write the effects myself.
Now I'm not going to tell you to try other software ( Traktor prov2 ). But if you try it, you'll see it's not the mac itself.

I bet if you boot in a windows partition, you will have the vdj windows version ( waste for a Mac ) but windows runs better on a Mac than a pc.

Good luck

.... And I'm not going to tell you which controller to get either (s4)

What kind of MBP?

13", 15" or 17"?
What kind of videocard is in use?

The most user with problems have a 13" MBP and this videocard can't handle in most cases the traffic!

Also it is possible, you use 1080p video files.
If yes, reduce them to 720p and it will work.

I am using 15" MBP

Yes some of them are 1080p so I have been reducing them

Seems the best type of file for pic and sound is flv

but will need to convert them outside of my MBP as I don't think there is a mac converter for flash video's but I am new to mac so I will keep digging

I would take the MBP back I bought mine and thought it was just me but its not apple seems to make everything difficult, yeah it will work on a macbook but you have to jump through like 10 hoops and read 15 different fourms to make anything work on it thats not just vdj. And thats not even mentioning how often my mac book crashes on me, apple claims to be more reliable.... I think not... my macbook crashes 6 out of 10 times I'm using it. This is the first and last macbook that I ever buy it total garbage and basically nothing but a shiney toy that looks good and is slightly lighter then the windows equivilant not to mention the mac book is twice as expensive as the windows counterpart.
I'm telling you bro take that POS back I wish I would have taken mine back before the 15 day return ran up.

I have a Macbook Pro early 2009 (8GB Ram). I have had problems with Virtual DJ to use videos in mp4 format H.264 720P resolution. Virtual DJ is out of sync when performing this type of video. Not so when I'm using Windows in bootcamp on the same computer. Performs all videos beautifully.

I have also recently released a Mac Mini with 8 GB of RAM and the problem occur with the videos the same way.

VDJ was originally written for windows (from what I can remember reading a while back)....and believe they made it work for mac users. Many effects work for windows only and before version 7, I had an occational crash on my mac. Windows was always more stable (in my past experience). I had to stop using VDJ for this reason and switched software.

Let's hope that the new version 8 (as it's being re-written from scratch) includes the mac version that supports all effects, functions, video support, etc.. so it works flawless like the windows version. This will bring me back and wait in anticipation...

Don't diss your mac just yet. It's a great machine.

Effects are often user contributed and those written for windows use DirectX. The Mac VDJ version uses OpenGL thus plugins require completely rewriting. Atomix cannot do this, it is down to the plugin developer.

That's too bad...and sometimes the cause of problems I assume. It would be nice if VDJ wrote all the effects available so that the programming can work together.

(ex. Traktor's effects are all incorporated within the software and not separately downloaded as plug-ins) There never are problems with effects.

I hope VDJ8 takes all the available effects and are written as included parts of the software both windows and os x so everything works seamlessly. Maybe upates could include effects as they are introduced written for respective os's..... Including video.

Anyway my thoughts

Ouch.... I'm using MAC for Almost 15years and that statement was 100% not correct, MAC is not a great machine as at this time many PC'c today performs far more better than MAC and maybe your statement was true 15years ago as MAC uses a special selected built hardware like the CPU and Memory which was manufactured by Motorola just for MAC Machine only. Those days MAC is manufactured in the US and some part in EUROPE not like at this time MAC is made in China and OSX made in India which has a lots of bugs and when you go to the site of apple every month OSX updates are posted to cover up those bugs another factors also that downgraded the MAC at this time is that, PC's & MAC USES THE SAME COMPONENTS SO WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? It is only the physical appearance that make peoples thinks that MAC is more reliable at this time but performance wise still theres no difference compare to PC. I'm not encouraging DJ's to go for MAC as they think MAC is a great machine if you are happy with your PC and if you need some improvements you probably need and upgrade not to directly changed your platforms as today the truth MAC suffers a lots of problems not only from Virtual DJ but also from many other programs. Also those days many years back people thinks that MAC is a great machine because it is not prone to viruses and free from virus attack. No more at this time, there's a lot of viruses that could harm your MAC, therefore it is not anymore safe without anti-virus on MAC like as it was before.

I love it when people take one sentence or phrase from an opinion then write a bible on how it is correct or incorrect. I love the Internet !
