How do I stop an external drive, so I can remove it from my gig machine, which I am using right now, in a club? I want to connect it to my laptop, to get some files off, to transfer to the gig machine. That "Safely remove hardware thing"says it can't be stopped right now. In a minute, I'm going to just disconnect it.

So something else is using the drive information and cannot be safely disconnected. Open up your Task Manager, and make sure that any media programs in the processes tab that may be using the drive are ended. Windows Media Player is famous for this even when it is not running. Anything labeled wmp, can be safely ended.

Also, if your running Virtual, it is using the drive. Try running a couple of songs off the laptop. Close VDJ on the main rig, then stop the drive. Otherwise, the above is correct.

Thanks gentlemen. What's up Terry? I figured VDJ had the drive. I thought there might be a way to release it. Not that important tonight, I just downloaded the files to the gig machine.

VDJ will allow hot swapping drives, ignore the windows warnings.
Done it by accident, done it on purpose, by design I believe the feature was to allow dj's to change up during live shows.
It will not crash the software, and that is the most important thing.
Call u later
