I am new to dj'ing and I just got asked to dj at a bar I work at. I'm usin my computer with virtual dj installed I have no tables and plan on using speakers I'm going to rent. So with that said my question is what do I all need to make this work. I was told an external sound card, a mixer and amp. If that's true what is a good but reasonably cheap mixer to use if I'm only using laptop. I was told numark dj io was good sound card. Thanks for any help.

It's hard to tell you what is the best mixer, controller or amplifier, cause there are so many choices and everyone has their own opinion.
Somewhere here on the forum ( but i can't seem to find it right now) it says "DON'T ASK WHAT IS THE BEST..." because its not that easy :)
It all depends on your budget, what you want to achieve, do you like scratching or just mixing....
So many factors that you should think about.
What you mean with "reasonable cheap"? 100$, 200$,, 300$,... We don't know.
You could try and look around on the internet to see what you can get for the money you are willing to spend.
Also remember that you will have to buy the VDJ Pro version if you are planning to do this seriously. Because the VDJ you'll get with a controller is a Limited Edition version, wich is euhm very limted :)
My first Controller was Hercules MP3 E2, very cheap, under 100$, but you pay for what you get, i wasn't that satisfied with it.
Now my second controller is Hercules 4-mx, less cheap, around 400$, but till now i'm satisfied about it...
So take some time to look around and decide how much money you are willing to spend ;)
Oh and BTW, welcome to the beautiful world of VDJ!
