Hey everyone...
I did a show and one of my roadies dropped a EV ELX115p down a flight of stairs. (DAAAAYUM).
These speakers are tough but not indestructible. I got my poor injured speaker home, plugged it in and heard that pleasant slight hiss that lets me know it's still working.
Well.... I have power. Let me run a signal to it to see what it's sounding like. Highs are as crystal clear as always, mids are a little off but low end is pretty much gone. (DAAAAYUM).
This really sucks for me because now I have it in the shop instead of in the field making money. On top of that I just purchased two QSC KW181's (Very impressed with them so far).
Soooooo... Now that my EV is down for a time, my thoughts turn towards new tops.
In consideration are the QSC k12's, the QSC kw122's, The EV ELX112p's. Also the QSC KW152's. I already own the EV 15's.
So waddau think?
What is the difference in sound between the K series and the KW series? I know how the EV's sound.

If the encloser is still good, another option would be to replace/repair the defective driver and/or crossover in the EV = cheaper?

Yep, replace the bass driver and bill the roadie.

Check it first. Had a similar problem (Blowout on a tyre of the trolley) and a connector came off on 1 driver. Most speakers are build very rigid, they won't pass away that easy...

@ City, I am using the JBL Prx 615 with the QSC KW181 sub and it sounds nice. I had the K12's and got rid of them because i wanted alittle more bass. Plastic cant handle deep mode in high volume plus it can easy red line. When cranking them up, i always reached the max and i always said... Thats It ?
The K is plastic and the KW is wood. The K series has 8 , 10 & 12 inch cabinets and the KW is starts with a 12 inch then 15 and a three way 15 inch.

the k10's have a better horn then the k12's using 4 k-10s would be better then 4 k-12's.

My Ev is in the shop getting repaired free of charge (warranty). That's why I haven't killed my roadie (yet).
I am looking at new tops because.... i'm a DJ. It's kinda what we do. Always upgrading. I like having several sound systems and two additional powered tops will make for an additional system.
I have several passive systems but only 1 1/2 powered systems.
I already have 2 Harbinger powered subs. I now have 2 QSC KW181's as well. I can use the Ev's with the Harbingers and the additional tops with the KW181's giving me two separate powered systems. I also have the Behringer powered 12's and 15's but they serve as monitors and/or backups.
I only need two more tops. I am trying to decide between the QSC k12, the QSC KW122 and possibly the EV ELX 112p to complement my KW181's.

The QSC KW181's are nothing but the truth.
I had a gig last night and I tried to clip them. They would not clip. I threw everything at them and they just asked for more. I had so much bass coming from these subs that I was getting dizzy. They are truly great subs.
I know that I need the RIGHT tops to complement these subs. I used the Mackie srm 450 powered tops with
the Kw181's and they simply were not enough. I'm sure my EV's can keep up but i'm not sure if they will be the best match. I hope to find out this week if my EV is repaired.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!
The magnet is cracked on the woofer. EV will not cover it (I don't blame them). How the hell does the magnet crack but the cabinet is intact?
NOW i'm going to bill the roadie and right after he pays me i'm gonna strangle him.
$110 to replace the driver. The shop wants to charge me $65 for labor. I can and will replace the driver myself and save $65.
WOW!

What a difference a day makes.
I called EV who originally said they would not cover the repair. After speaking to them, they changed their mind and they WILL cover the repair. The woofer is on it's way to the repair shop as I type this.
I feel sooooo much better now and my roadie can continue to draw breath.
