hes been texting me back and forth to confirm the 180, iv said no to that and said its 300 and im not going any lower then that, due to the fact i gotta travel get speakers, lights. pack my gear in my car, un pack all into venue and set up. at the end of night gotta un pack drive home take all out of car and back into room, the next day or 2 gotta take back the speakers . he was ment to get back to me tonight and its 3am now, im gonna play call of duty black ops now.

I used the Apple approach now, "I know my value, so if you want me, you pay my non-negotiable fee!"

Nothing personal, just business!

Tell him some DJs charge less - they know what they are worth.

We have a unique industry, where DJs actually charge what they are worth. And the reason is because they are offered cheap jobs, and they take them, and they provide what is expected for that cheap rate.

You could try the humorous approach - tell him you can do it for $180 but it doesn't include speakers for that price ;d

With a bit of luck you'll get booked by someone else.

Also if he's cheap it's gonna be a bad night anyway so whats the point in doing it? your not getting paid and your miserable.

$180 isn't worth it to me whatsoever. That is an insult. At that price, I would tell him you'll be there, but not show and blame it on confusion of which day

Just say no... not worth getting in to. He will probably agree the 300 then pay you 180 on the night.

Or just say you got another fully paid gig that will unexpectedly get cancelled as soon as he hires someone else...

Gadget is probably right ...if he's that insistent on the $180 ....that's all he's got

he probably wouldn't honor the 300 price

id offer him two words........... JOG ON!

JOG ON are probably not the two words I would use however he would certainly understand that I wasn't doing it for the 180 he was offering.

This is funny. You are explaining this to a bunch of DJs, like we don't know what you have to go through. There is way too much talking going on. "I will give you a discounted rate of $300.00 cash, because of (brother in law blah blah), to be paid at set up time. No, you can't afford that, I'm sorry, I won't be able to accommodate you. Thank you for calling".

@ scottmaier, please read the above ^ (the correct way).

No professional DJ would ever conduct himself in the way you have proposed. You accept a booking and you honour it.

Sounds like he needs an iPod DJ, complete with 1/2" tweeters and 6" bottoms duo speakers set...

Tayla, you are so right. One of the problems in this industry is so called DJs, not showing for a gig. Does not help us one bit.

@pseft, What is 300 hunge?

If i already told someone 300 several times and hes keeps texting me to do it for 180, I wont respond back anymore. I am not going to waste my time explainning anymore. You end up doing the gig and then he will try to pull a fast one on you.

Is he Arab? Without disrespect of course, but this is the way I've seen Arabs do business. They ask for A, you come back with B, they ask A, you come back with C, they ask you to confirm A, you re-explain C, they say they understand its A. :P

Same thing happened to me, 250 for an 8 hour gig, we all know an 8 hour gig is really 10-12 depending on set-up & drive time. I told him I had another gig that night. We will see if he calls back, if he doesn't, I lost nothing.

He won't. Why would he? You've told him you've got another gig. If you expect him to call back with a better offer and you accept, that would mean you let your other customer down. And that makes you someone I would never call again just because it could happen to him too...

if he does agree to the $300, I would get my money before I even took my equipment out of the car....& I agree with the other guys, I would never say I would be there & not show up... Word of mouth is a bitch....& I wish in my area we could charge $400.....I get hassled because I charge $250 but we have a lot of dj's that do shows for like $150-$175 in my area....But it's like I tell my customer I have to load up equipment...drive to your venue.....unload equipment & more than likely go up some stairs.....setup up the equipment....play music for 4-5 hours & then break down equipment....load it back in the car....drive home.....unload equipment & place in proper storage area.....but the lowballers drive down the economy here so oh well....

I had someone call me for a gig a few weeks ago, told him i would charge him $600 he offered $200 I told him i couldn't do it and he hang up. He called back back 10 minutes later asking me if i had reconsidered... i told him again that those are my fees for that type of event and $550 would be as low as i could go and he turned it down again, he said he only had $200 in his budget...
called back about a week ago, asked if i had reconsidered, i told him the rate was now $700, he said and i quote "what are you crazy? you said 550 before now you are saying 700? that's not a good way to do business", I explained that its now march and prices go up the closer you get to wedding season... he hasn't called back... :) and im not stressing over it

I got the same problem rd ... and the local bar/clubs dont pay diddly ... and when the missus and i venture out I nearly have a coronary at the level of "Experience" these guys have (read: LACK OF) we had a wedding and tried the local Casino (knew the band would be hot those guys ALWAYS bring it to the stage) After bands last set Dj started with Rick James Give it to me ... tried to mix something else in that genre (dont remember the track) the into "Get Paper" ... needless to say the room CLEARED.... and he books thru an entertainment agency (which I have an artist agreement with) I traveled the country working CLUBS and Casinos for 5 years and I could have rocked that set dead drunk and blind. .....
