I use 2 Numark V7's and and a Pioneer DJM250 mixer.......... Ive never really been near a CDJ 2000 - . My question is.... If I show up to a club with all my music on a usb....how quickly would the average learning curve be on the spot? I know this cant be precisely determined, but an average number will do. Even if it is just a guess. Would one be able to adapt to using the CDJ 2000 in less than a minute, having obvious previous use of a midi and classic turntable?

Just wondering...

the platters not spinning is the big difference, but the learning curve is probably going to be two tracks if you can already beatmatch by ear, but it should be much easier to use static platters... just make sure you use record box to organise your usb so you can find everything easily... its also good practice to take a spare usb or a couple of cd's just incase.

Thanks. Do you believe if I use the CDJ skin it would make any difference in terms of prep?

probably not, but i guess it can't hurt to get to know the layout... but the only things you need are play, cue, the platter & browser navigation... if you really want you can set cues but it's better to do the easy stuff the first time you use new equipment... I actually believe the mixer is more important to get to know than the cdj's, so when you are in the booth have a play around with it in the headphones when you get the chance.

This is supposedly why CDJs are "the industry standard".......because anyone can work out how to use them in a few seconds.

My first encounter with Rekordbox didn't go so well though.

I copied the tracks (in a playlist) from RB to two SD cards which were going to be used in CDJ-2000s. Got to the gig and the playlist wouldn't show on the player.

Apparently I'd done it "the wrong way", so had to get my laptop out and transfer the whole lot again.

I see. See this is why I'm asking. The logical solution would to be to obviously practice on some before getting to the club, but since I don't know anyone who has some and aren't immediately available, I can only hope it goes well. Or... I could just show up with my N4 and go off that.

Get there really early so you can try it out before it gets busy.

Just plug and play with the laptop running Virtual DJ Pro - to CDJS 2000? That easy?

The Average learning curve for every dj is different. Some will pick up on things faster while others need more time. Different decks have a different feel.
