Hey there, just bought some m-audio av30 speakers, a bit disjointed, base is weak. Know any solid speakers that could get a room bumpin? For parties in decently large rooms? budgets at a max 800$, thanks, any helps appreciated.

Were you really expecting to "get a room bumpin'" with a pair of computer monitor speakers with three inch woofers?!

With $800 you could just about get a pair of powered 15" + horn full range cabs from the lower end of the market.

They'll get you started but their ability to "bump a large room" will be limited.

I started withe the mackie thumps th15a and they haven't. Let down yet. You can find deals
Online for a pair with stands and cords with a bag sometimes for like 700. Or you can go the cheaper route for now and get the low end and then build from that!!!! IMO.

With 800, You can buy The MATRIX 1000 V2. The only draw back is the weight of the subwoofer but the speakers system will do the job. Check on Craigslist. You can probabaly find a nice deal and maybe alot cheaper that 800.

are the krk rokits or vxt's any good?

KRK as a brand are HIGHLY respected and I hear of hardly ANYONE with ANYTHING bad to say about the ROKIT line....Plus they are in a size for every budget....I personally use Audioengine, highend pc speakers for my near field monitors, 300$.....6in. cones, active and going to a 100wt. Polk sub (active) $100....all via RCA's off of my soundcard....external....

Hi, I have a pair of Alto ts115a & the sound pretty good, I have done a few outdoor barbecues with 300 people & they surprised me, sounded really good on stands, great bang for the buck! I did a birthday party last night with 100 people and only used 1 of them & it sounded good. I dont say this from inexperience, I do professional sound & have a 20k watt horn loaded & a 15k front loaded system for large events, but I use these for smaller parties & the do just fine. About $650-$750 pr online or at Guitar Center. They have a 15" woofer & horn & are 400 watts RMS. I compared them to the JBL PRX's and they sound pretty close for half the price. Add a powered 18" sub down the road & yur good to start out with.

Thanks a ton for the help! So ive been considering both your suggestions, KRK's ive heard are excellent as well, decently priced for the pair as well, i also found the alto ts115a speakers on sale for 400$ right now http://www.guitarcenter.com/Alto-TS115A-15--Active-2-Way-Speaker-106721459-i2386549.gc

So do you suggest: a pair of krk rokit 6 speakers and then for a subwoofer possibly a krk 12s subwoofer?
or: alto ts115a speaker, as i could only afford one, with a krk sub woofer? And to add, i do need RCA connections as i am on the hercules console rmx...unless theres any other way around it! Thanks a ton guys

You seem to be confused as to what speakers you need....

In your first post you talked about a bumpin' party in a large room.

You mentioned you'd bought some small home monitor speakers for a few $$$$.

Now you're talking about KRK Rokits! Those are NOT P.A. speakers! They're designed for near field monitoring (in other words, you sitting really close to them).

If you want some monitors for checking your mixes on at home, then yes the KRK range is very good. You won't need a sub with them unless you really want to hear the very lowest notes.......and your neighbours are out.

If however you're looking for speakers capable of playing to large crowds of people for parties in big rooms, then you need PA speakers, not home studio monitors.

Oh alright, what are some PA speakers you might suggest that are well priced?

Beames, those Craigslist speakers are three different types of speakers, none of which I would personally want. Studio speakers are for home use only and not what you need for DJ'ing.

For gigs you need a proper set of powered speakers like the ones suggested to you, like the Tapco Thump, Behringer or the B-52 Matrix.

In addition you will then need a set of stands and cables, so plan on spending another $150 - $200.

If you have any questions about what to get or best bang for the buck, just ask on here before you buy.

Once again the choice is yours but bang for the buck I would go with the Altos!

Beames - why do you keep linking to small low power home studio speakers?

We've already told you they're not going to be suitable for playing to lots of people in large halls.

But if all you're doing is listening to your VDJ mixes in your bedroom at home then OK, buy the small ones.

But thats what people have been suggesting..? Im so confused ahah!

Whats Confusing..? Look at all the post that are recomending party Speakers.. NOT Home Monitoring speakers.

True haha ill keep looking online
