New toy? Great little back up or cocktail/ceremony hookup? Looks like you can hook a hardrive up...May be putting my new ipad up for sale.

I actually watched the ABC blog, and they seemed to have put a lot into it. This way you will not have to stand out in the rain, for two weeks every year, to get the new version, that added one thing, that should have been added in the first place. There will be two versions the RT and the Pro. It will also have Intel chips, not the ARM chips they have in most tablets and phones.

Excellent news.
Something decent at last to take on the dominance of the overpriced ipad.
It will run real Windows instead of iOS and looks very functional.
Having just found out my very expensive 64gb ipad 1 and my ipod touch 3rd gen 64gb won't be upgraded to the latest iOS (not because of any technical limitation but because Apple would rather I bought a new one) Apple can stick any future business from me where the sun don't shine!

It says this "Explore your world with fast, fluid Windows 8 apps."
but looks like it'll run it's own OS the same as ipad, so I guess that means no vdj pro, this is the fine print
Also any info on HD sizes, it was rumored on djtt the price will be $499 i5/ $999 i7

1Works exclusively with apps from the Windows Store.
HD Video Out also requires the HD Digital AV Adapter (sold separately).
Surface for Windows RT includes Office 15 Apps.
2Works exclusively with printers, mice, and keyboards certified for Windows RT

Still less than buying 3 ipads, and all the accessories. Hey, I know they have to make money, but don't suck me dry every year with one little improvement, that should have been on the last one.

The RT variant will run Metro only, so no desktop. The Pro variant is a full blown PC, including desktop;
Here's what I was able to puzzle together from the comments in the presentation so far:
'Surface RT'
Runs on Nvidia chipset, Assume Tegra
32 and 64GB version
10inch Cleartype HD screen 16:9,1366x768 resolution
USB 2.0 used for charging but can also be used for external devices
HDMI out
'Surface Pro'
3rd gen i5 Intel chipset Ivy Bridge
64 and 128 GB versions
10inch Cleartype FullHD screen 16:9, 1920x1080
USB 3.0 port
Displayport out for larger resolutions on external screen
