Hello,
I started mixing.
I want to buy Controllers "Mixtrack NUMARK Pro", a "Macbook Air", and Monitors.
(To put on my desk next to my Macbook Air).
So I would like to have your opinion on active monitoring speakers, Price = 250 $ MAX.
I'm hesitateing at this moment between:
- Ikey-Audio M-606v2 : http://www.ikey-audio.com/m-606v2
- The Behringer speakers ..
So I don't know exactly what can I take.
Thank you in advance.
Best Regards..
Charly.

Increase your budget to $300 and get a pair of KRK Rokit RP5 speakers.

Like has already been said....the "go to" right now for monitoring is KRK and specifically their "rokit" line.....available in a wide variety of sizes and prices....Can't go wrong. On the cheaper end, lots of ppl. like the M-Audio line of speakers, but they are no where near the KRK quality imo.......If you also want a pair of speakers that can playback music and sound good (big difference between good playback speakers for listening and good speakers to monitor. Monitor speakers produce a flat sound).....I use the AudioEngine A5s.....$325, but solid wood and clean, loud, full bodied sound......They are good for all around use. Capable of running me out of my 30x20 ft. office.....

Hello,
Thank you for your suggestion.
But what do you think about SAMSOM Studio GT ?
What is the difference with a studio speaker ?

I've heard Samson makes good stuff. The pair that you link to are along the same line as the Audioengines that I referenced. Good all around speakers. Typically speaking "studio monitors" don't sound that pleasant for normal music listening due to sounding flat, letting you here all of the nuance in the track. Regular speakers are not good for studio's because they "color" the sound to make it more warm and pleasing to the listener. This pair looks to be a nice hybrid of both like my Audioengines. Beware though at 20watts that are not going to be "loud." but in an office for monitoring they would work fine....imo

Hello,
So if I understand, Samson Studio GT won't be good to be used at home ?
Because I want to link it to my Macbook Air and I'm going to buy Numark Mixtrack Pro.
Thanks.
Best Regards.

Apparently they're 15W - and they're not monitor speakers. They're PC/multimedia speakers.
You asked for advice, we gave it, and you're still looking at the wrong type of speakers.....

Here's the deal.....There are TWO very different types of speakers
Monitoring/Studio Speakers: produce a "flat" response. In other words, you here all of the flaws/nuiances in the ,music. These speakers are best for producers, music studios, DJ that want to get that Perfect sounding mix for live replay, etc. Lots of ppl. like these.
"Regular Speakers" what most ppl. think of are tuned to sound warm, rich and make any type of music sound its best. Made to cover up flaws in the recording process. Good for listening, parties, etc.
Now the Samson speakers you reference, from what I gather lean more toward the studio monitor side, so do the KRK's that we all highly recommend. I PERSONALLY like the AudioEngine A5's as I can use them for playing back my mixes and for general music listening. I don't produce and have no intention to. I just like to mix music and listen to it on clean, loud speakers. The AudioEngines are by definition Multimedia computer speakers, albeit very high end ones. You saw the A2's that are A LOT smaller and underpowered for music playback in my opinion, not the A5's. My a5's are large like the KRK's and produce a warm, pleasant sound when paired with a subwoofer. I PREFER this. Not everyone does. I recommend going to your local musicians store and hearing the difference in monitors vs. "regular" speakers for yourself, then decide what you like. There is no right answer here. True musicians and producers will say monitors all day long. I say, on a limited budget get something that you can use for regular listening and playback as well. I personally don't see why a basic DJ needs to critique music to the level of studio monitoring if they are not producing as well. basically DJ's are simply mixing and playing back already "mastered" tracks......Just my opinion though.....All speakers are only a matter of opinion sound wise anyway. One again, I will say Samson makes good stuff, the KRK Rokits are superb and my AudioEngines are awesome as well......Up to YOUR ears, not mine or anyone elses. In a perfect world we would all have both types.......
BTW the AudioEngines I use, the A5's are 45w rms and 70w peak......They really fill up the room I use them in, with 1/2 the volume used. Roughly 20x30 ft. The company offers a 30day free trial. They are "technically" huge PC speakers, but they WILL do the job paired with a subwoofer which you will want if you are mixing EDM anyway. Extremely good reviews and have won several awards. But, again NOT true monitors.........

The only difference that I see is that the BX 5 D2's appear to be a higher quality model. They are both virtually the same thing though from what I can tell......
**For future reference, in the DJ game, you are going to be comparing different electronic components all of the time. I find it helpful to use Amazon.com for product/price comparisons and if further info is needed, use the manufacturer's website. In this case I searched "M-Audio" and found out just what I told you above. Yes they are both 70 watt. studio reference monitors, and yes M-Audio is a good brand. 70 watts should be plenty for monitoring at your desk, etc. NOT FOR PARTIES, for those you need a small PA system.
