Topic: Blowing off steam!!! - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

I updated my phone last night to ICS and lost 90% of my contacts so i'm PISSED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That being said,

Why do we have Soooooooooooo many so called DJ's that refuse to learn HOW to DJ.
a million questions about sync...
a million and one questions about how to mix this with that...

We all started at some point and did not know our ass from a crossfader but we LEARNED.

We learned to mix.
We learned to beatmatch.
We learned transitions.
We learned our music
We learned our equipment.
WE LEARNED OUR CRAFT!!!!!!!!!!

I am SOOOOOOOOOO tired of posts about...

I want to do a party. How do you sync 120 bpm's to 85 bpm's
ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?

You CAN'T sync 120 bpm's to an 85 bpm track. Don't your EARS tell you this?!?

Note to wannabees........
LEARN TO MIX AND USE COMMON SENSE!
Not learn to SYNC but learn to MIX. Nothing wrong with sync (I don't use it) but DAMN... Have some pride and some drive and LEARN TO MIX!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can go on and on but i'm gonna stop for now cause i'm pissed at something that has nothing to do with stupid wanna be poser dj's but I had to blow off a little steam.

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a LOT of steam left!

U prolly didn't kno , but u can back up ur phone

:-)

I did back up up the phone with keis but it seems to have failed.

How the hell did you lose all your contacts? Do you not have them all in Gmail? So simple with android. Your Gmail account keeps everything including your apps.

U can even have them backed up to ur Facebook

By the way, ur second bit of ur thread I totally agree . Ther has been a few question that are abit lame and we just have to deal with It I reckon.
They just don't kno how to learn the hard way

The upgrade to ICS should not delete anything.

Contacts should be automatically backed up to the Google server and can easily be restored.

Why do we have Soooooooooooo many people with smartphones that don't know how to use them! :)

Seriously, KIES is a piece of shit. If you didn't have them backed up to the memory card or Google server then it may be an issue getting them back.

I backup my contacts to the memory card every couple of weeks and use SMS backup & restore for my messages. Also, Titanium Backup can be set to do a complete backup of everything on your phone automatically to the memory card and it's saved me a few times now.

I had stopped syncing to gmail cause it was draining the battery.
facebook is a pain so I don't really mess with it too much.

I got most of my contacts back but not all.

there IS a reason you sync your contacts to gmail. Sounds like you chose to the battery trade off so...oops, lesson learned? LOL

Sowwy man that sucks. I've been through losing contacts before. All it took then was for me to create multiple outlook contact backup files. Now on my phone I do use Gmail but also keep them saved off Gmail monthly just in case.

i found out by accident that my contacts wer on facebook and i stopped that coz i didnt even agree to it... gmail and memory are my preferred options

Wise words...
I thought I had backups but....

Ok...

Rant over.

I have to agree....I learned on my own. There was no one there to answer my questions. I made mistakes and learned from them. My advice to all the "dj's" that are learning is to mess up ......it's ok that's how you learn. Get lost in you're software and equipment when you find your way back you know more than when you first started.

Actually, there is a way to "sync" 120 to 85 BPM........Ableton......hahahaha.....its how I make transitions. :D

Sorry man, had to add fuel to the fire...its what I do.

Started on 2 techs and a mixer with VINYL no one taught you how to DJ back then and the internet was just a gleam in Al Gores twinlkling eye... Djs need ed to have an "EAR" for the music. I remember practicing for at least 6 months before I even tried to let people know I DJ'd (even though I was lioving with my dad and he was a club promotions guy and kept trying to get me to play after 2 weeks) I feel your pain brother

wanna save your contacts .... You can export your contacts to your phones SD card ---- i bought a 2gb strictly for that and export them monthly as a back up

Chill , dont let the snyc help requests get to you.... have a good cigar and a tall glass of crown royal on the rocks ... hit the studio and blast an angry mix works for me

it's a lot easier nowadays but actually i think that makes it harder in a funny sort of way, for example you dont have to use your brain, invest heavily etc.. but all that struggle is what made you as a DJ.

Honestly, as good as this lot have it. I wouldn't swap places with them!

You have to remember without VDJ, sync, free music and China, 80% of em wouldn't be here.

We have to remember to humour them a bit especially when their going on about hifi speakers and the like lol, as long as they have fun in the time that they do it, it's all good.

Hey I'm an aspiring DJ. I just love music and finding that groove that will make people dance. I know that veteran DJ's look down on VDJ and the digital world, but that is what I'm starting off with since it allows me to get my feet wet while still being cheap. My question is for all of the gigs of music that I have, is it necessary to set cue points for every song or what would be a good way of getting my music organized and ready to drop on the crowd at any moment?

when i was yer age , i could juggle 3 chainsaws , and hardly break wind ....

why, if we had a bag of dirt for dinner , we were grateful for what we were blessed with....

sheesh ....

whatever you are starting with is great , no reason to apologize.....

"in the good ol' days , we had it rough" doesn't matter or even make sense .....

here's one link , there's lots of stuff at this forum look around .....

http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/15/Mix_lessons.html

as far as organizing your music ......if you ask 10 people at this forum you will get 11 good answers....

i realize that is vague , but just try a few different ways, try playlists, try virtual folders , try filter folders , etc

and whatever works for you is all you need .......

Congrats on your journey to being a DJ!!!

Firstly, Virtual DJ is a Professional DJ software and will be even better in the new version coming (VDJ 8). Don't worry about other dj's and what they may use. Use what YOU like and what works for YOU!

As far as organizing your music, there are many many ways of doing this and they are all the correct way. It really is a matter of what makes sense to YOU as you are the one that will have to know your way around your files.

I tend to have my crates in the same order I have on my Hard Drive. I have folders on my HD like...

Oldies 60's, 70's, Motown
90's R&B
New Hip Hop
Older Hip Hop
Old school Hip Hop
Reggae (Radio)
Reggae (Classics)
Party Breaks
AV8
Slow Jamz
wedding Music
Old school Funk

These are just examples of how to organize music into crates.

As far as cue points, YES! You want to add cue points to just about every track that you play. The main reason for this is so you can quickly get to the point in the song that you want to be.
With a traditional record on a turntable, you had the ability to needle drop. You could skip all around the record to find where you wanted to be. With CD's that ability was lost but with dj software like Virtual DJ, You can set multiple cue points and instantly jump to where you want to be.

The best advice I can give to a newcomer is to PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Learn your music and actually learn to DJ!!!!

DO NOT RELY ON THE SYNC BUTTON!!!

USE COMMON SENSE WITH YOUR MIXES!!!

LEARN YOUR EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE!!!

TAKE YOUR TIME AND HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ask whatever questions you need to. We all started somewhere and none of us were born knowing all this stuff. We all learned. We all messed up and learned from our mistakes and got better.

Just don't let the software be the dj. You should be the DJ controlling the software. Not the other way around.
