... or at least you have used VDJ for too long, when you just dismiss 80% of the new features, without really looking into them first...
Quadratic volumne faders? Nah, I'm used to the old ones
Volume headroom? Nah, I can handle that myself
Limiter? Nah, probably don't need that
Colored Waveforms? Nah, I'm so used to looking at the old ones
Parametric Equalizer? Nah, it works fine as it is
Better sound engine? Uh! Yes! I'll have that one!
:)

You're not getting old, I'm the same way. Parametric EQ?... Why do I need that? I'm playing music that has already been mastered. The odd time I might boost the bass slightly but that's about it. We're DJing for humans, not spectrum analyzers.

Parametric EQ's are awesome though, give em a try.....I was skeptical at first, as my first encounter was in my car audio setup. I am by far more of a home/car audio guy than DJ. But, with 3 bands, (hi, mid, low) and the frequency adjustments within each, I can make literally any decent quality Mp3 or burned CD sound "right".....Sooooooo much more control that the fixed frequency old 3 band. With the old standard 3 band u control the depth of bass, mid , treble, but only within a preset frequency range, parametric EQ's totally re-invented that game...I'm SOLD. =D ....U are basically getting the equivalent of like a 50 band traditional eq in 3 bands.....

Im just old... I miss the old days when you had to search throught the 1500 records to find the next songs and then pull a few then play them and then get the next ones read.. now its all just so simple.. All the kids here havent been through that stress..

I'm SO ready for the next cool feature. The colored database. Assign a color to each song.
Early play songs are blueish... and kick ass songs will be redish. Play by the rainbow.
I've been rebuilding my MP4 collection. Colors will be a help to contol the "heat" of the music during the night.
I saw it work in Atlantic City with the Version 8 demo. Nudge nudge.

I do that before I'm at the gig. Any songs that sound a little bit "off" are loaded into audio editing software and......well basically remastered. Adjust the EQ (the most common problem), reduce the dynamic range (sometimes there's too much for gig use), edit the structure (remove/extend sections of audio).
I also use Ableton Live to straighten out old variable tempo tracks, and sometimes even add drums and percussion.

Personally I don't know how I got by without the Parametric EQ. The full EQ is just awful for mashups. It kills too many frequencies! The parametric EQ, on the other hand, lets me kill the bassline without destroying the fullness of the vocals. If you prefer the old EQ then it's time to get your ears checked.
Also, thanks to colored waveforms I can mix some songs without using headphones.
