well after a long break from playing music i got the old turntables out and started playing again , the problem i have is even on low volume the bass travels straight thru the floor to the room below , i dont want to just remove the bass from my music as it sounds awfull is their anything thats any good to lower the bass , at the moment i just have my m-audio bx8's on stands .

The simplest thing is to get the speakers off the floor. Stands or as suggested isolating pads all good ideas. You could also look at using a smaller pair of "Bookshelf" hifi speakers or small monitors to try and reduce the amount of bass vibration but still keep most of the sound you want.

Go to a dollar store and buy 4 rubber balls. Cut them each in half and place each speaker on 4 of the halves.
I played a club where I took in my Acoustic double 18 bin and had it on the floor. When kicking it... downstairs in the basement bar there was a very annoying buzzing sound from the vibrations.
I put the bass bin on the 4 half balls and no more noise. It was very cheap and worked well.
