Topic: Touchscreen or no touchscreen

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

OK. So I am finally retiring my heavy older rack mount CPU and going with a laptop, because I and the unit are getting older and we can't lift each other any more. Do I go with a touchscreen which would be about 14" cause I don't have $2k to blow on a larger one or just go with a reg laptop. How does the touchscreen perform? How about on a smaller screen? Any help would be much appreciated. I would follow with a better controller eventually but prob break out my old herculese for a time until then and would have the touchscreen. I was thinking this one.
Toshiba Satellite 14" P845T-S4102. (Best buy $749.99) Thoughts?

Touchscreen instead of a laptop?
The main thing different is typing on a glass screen (on-screen keyboard).
As far as mouse gestures goes, its easier to point and click on screen, a little "harder" right click, multi select, scroll etc..
(but its just experience, one gets used to it).

A touchscreen can easily replace a laptop for sure, if its a true PC running a full operating system.
If you are thinking of running Windows RT or Android, it can not really replace a laptop, other than internet surfing, and basic fun apps. You need full version of Windows/Mac on the touchscreen to be a true "laptop replacement".

A good middle solution would maybe be betting one of the many hybrid laptops, that are both touch screen, and traditional laptop at same time...
Some examples of hybrids : http://blog.laptopmag.com/top-windows-8-tablet-laptop-hybrids

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Yes I'm looking at a hybrid. Just the screen are smaller right now unless you drop a bundle and then they only increase in size a couple of inches. I was wondering on vodka performance on a touchscreen. How has it been on the new version? Latency?

Laptops with multitouch support are overpriced at the moment, but will get less expensive as time goes by. A touchscreen is useful in some occasions, as it can be transformed to a side-controller, if you load a custom skin. Its always nice to trigger actions/features with a touch rather than using a mouse.
I would wait for a couple of months. I am sure the prices will drop more.

I recently took out my 20 inch HP touchsmart ALL IN ONE 310 to a very small kids gig just for fun. (had my gig laptop in its bag just in case) I usually just use it as my desktop as home. It ran awesome, video and audio ran smoothly. When I purchased it 2 years ago I paid 650 at BestBuy. Im looking into getting a newer, more powerful one, once VDJ 8 drops.

I even found a site that makes road bags specifically for those PC's.

may be an option for you that doesnt break the bank

I run a custom built touchscreen setup and love it. I use a trackball mouse as to me it is easier than fiddling with some stuff onscreen. If the scroll areas in VDJ were wider or customizable then I could get away with no mouse. I don't have Multi Touch so I also use an Evolution X-Session for crossfading and love it.
