$10 a month download as much as you want. Searches the internet for whatevers out there. I believe if it has a check mark next to the track, then it has been tested or was released by the label. It caches the songs so only vdj can use them, the songs have to be reauthorized every so often. VDJ will do this on its own, when you are signed in to virtual dj via the config menu. I would advise that you manually refresh the authorizations, before any gigs, in case you don't have internet where you are at. Once a songs authorization expires it can not be played until you refresh it. The files will not play outside of the software, and if you are recording a set and drop one in a deck vdj will stop recording your set. Had that happen to me at the 45min mark of an hour set a few times.

I use it to get music instantly on the go (tethering with my phone for internet), and I'll download it later elsewhere if its useful to have.

Thanks that sounds all good. Does it list by genre or do you have to be track specific?

You have to put in exactly what you want.

It's not there for browsing purposes, it's for finding the track you need.

I personally think that if we're organised, we should be able to play anything required at a gig without resorting to downloading. If it's that much of an oddity that it's not in our collection already then it probably won't do down well anyway!

Finally, there's no shame in admitting you don't have something. DJs managed for decades that way before laptops and wifi came along.

I have the Virtual Dj home edition.....everytime I set up the audio configuration it tells me I need the basic or full edition..( the music only plays for ten minutes then shuts off) I have an external mixer and an amp .very simple...do I just pay the $10.00 monthly fee and the audio will work?.........I cannot find the answer to my question anywhere....... they don't answer the phone and no return emails ...( please help!)......I have a gig tomorrow and do not want to go back and carry 100 pounds of cds anymore.

The Home Free version cannot be used for commercial purposes. This is a contravention of the EULA.

To be able to configure sound and use external or multichannel audio you need either VirtualDJ Pro Basic or Pro full.

Please see the product comparison here: http://www.baixaki.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html

The audio subscription is for the music only and does not alter the function of the software.

I can see where you might be confused. The $10 audio plan is only for content (songs) not for the audio functionality of the software. Your home version is limited to home use, that's why you can't change some of the settings and can't run past 10 minutes.
If you have a gig and want to use VDJ for public (non-home) use, you need to purchase one of the non-home versions. If you have the time, my suggestion would be to purchase a controller that comes with the limited version and then upgrade at a discounted price, especially if your already accustomed to a CD-player type of interface. That's how I did it many years ago.

I definitely feel your pain with the CD's... Once you are able to do everything from the computer, you will wonder why you didn't switch sooner.

I personally don't use the $10/month plan for music, but if I was starting out now, with just a bunch of CD's (or records) then it would probably be a no-brainer.

Good luck on your gig.

I do this ALL THE TIME and I am subscribed to the audio plan! My reason is I do not DJ/VJ with my 6/yr old laptop online because I have had VDJ crash to the desktop a few times after a fair number of netsearch download-to-cache. I will probably be using the service more when I get a more up-to-date laptop.

Why don’t you search and see if you get the results you want?
