Well I'm planning on starting my own DJing gig. I have the controller, sound system, and software picked out (obviously VDJ), but now I've come to a slight kink in my plan: where do I get music, what kind of music do I get, and HOW MANY SONGS?
I was planning on doing dances, parties etc. so the age group would be teens to adults.

Thanks

Start with the top 30 on Billboard, and you will have to get some of the classic party music. You will have to buy, try itunes or some of the pro services, like PromoOnly. Knowing what to play and when is the most important aspect of being a DJ. No one wants to hear what you like. You have a long road ahead of you, good luck.

Try franchise record pool. Not going to find hardly any old stuff, but tons of new tracks and videos. $20 bucks a month.

So basically, if I subscribe to Promo, they send me CDs? Or do I just download the songs from their website.

Last I remember promo only was cd only, but that may have changed. You could subscribe to one of vdjs services and cache songs too. For the most part I only buy videos now. VJ-pro is good, but its pricey to get a library built up. Franchiserecordpool.com is only $20 a month. Good place to start. I wouldn't bother with cds anymore. Its too much trouble to rip them.

So basically, If I subscribe to FRP, I can download any amount of music? What happens when the subscription expires?

tkm

Promo only has a digital download service called POOL (Promo only online). Has different options ($12 per genre, packages, etc). I pay $40/mth for all single releases(mainstream radio, dance radio, mainstream country, urban radio, rhythm radio, modern rock, contemporary christian, latin) plus a ton of single releases and four "dff" releases (about 50 tracks each)

I don't know anything about this site but I saw some one talk about on here. It looks like you get to download unlimited amount of music from them. Its $425 for a year and if you need to pool a ton of music to start it wouldn't be a bad idea. Especialy if you need to get a bunch of old school stuff too. I have a lot of music so I am just buy stuff from iTunes when I hear it or think of it. Like recently I bought Salt-N-Pepa's greatest hits album. Maybe someone on here can pipe up about this sit if they know it.

Can anyone explain to me how Franchise Record Pool, Promo Only, and the other mp3 pools work?

Youre best bet is to go to each of their websites. That way you will have a clear understanding of each of their subscription plans. Then you can make a decision of whitch one suits you...
